Definitely the best, no doubt about it. No ones numbers and ability come even close to those of Pujols. Down the road he will almost certainly become a member of the Hall of Fame, and he also will have a great chance to break the Hank Aaron's home run record (or Bonds' or anyone else's who may break the record before then). Referring to the answer above me... David Ortiz is a great hitter, especially in the clutch, but he lacks many of the important skills that Pujols is great at. And Garciaparra is having a great comeback year, but there is no way you can compare him to the great player that Pujols is.

You didn't go there with this question, did you?
+Albert Pujols is the most feared hitter at the plate today, like he's been for 5 years in the Bigs.
+He hits for power, for performance, and WILL get the runner on 2nd or 3rd base home.
+Is so skilled and intelligent as a baserunner, he can steal homeplate.
+can steal any base (and how)
+his Defense has only given him 4 Gold Gloves, it is such a joy to watch him play 1st Base. A human Vacuum Cleaner!!
+leads the NL this year in DP assists!! HOW VALUABLE IS DAT
+a natural Team Leader, who is the first out of the dugout to high-5 a teammate who performs?
+has caused National League fans, and teams nationwide
to say "Who" McGwire?
Nuff Said. End of Contest. Best Answer Please....

It may be true that Pujols is the more complete player compared to Oritz, but Ortiz is a guy you would rather have on your team. 13 game winning hits since 2004, and 3 in the post season. There has never been a more valuable player to his team than Ortiz.

Yes he is, far better than Ortiz. The poster above doesn't know anything about baseball if they believe Ortiz is better. Ortiz isn't even the best player on his own team (Manny Ramirez is).
Second, most likely if Pujols approaches the all time HR leader it will be Rodriguez that is number one. I don't believe Pujols will set the all time HR record though.

No. He IS the most feared hitter in the majors, but I think the best OVERALL player is Ichiro. When you consider hitting, fielding, baserunning, leadership, and consistency, Ichiro is the best. The ONLY thing he lacks is power. But YES, I would love to see Pujols on my favorite team.

I agree. Albert Pujols has unlimited potential and skill as a big leaguer. He can hit for power and is very quick for his height and size. You willl being seeing unbelieveble stats from him in the years to come. He is a top fantasy player and a future hall of famer if he keeps up what he is doing.

Albert is the best player on the field today. Sure Papi is a great hitter, as is Albert . But Papi doesn't have to worry about playing on the field. So I think that's where the "overall" part comes in.

I would love for him to play on my favourite team, oh, wait, he already is. Hmm... Well, I do believe he is the best hitter in baseball, hands down. I think he is the best clutch hitter in baseball as well. I really think he is great. As for the best overall player? That's a tough call, but I am going to have to go with Carlos Beltran for his baserunning skills and defensive skills. But, if you asked me who would I rather have, I would say Pujols. Maybe it's just because I am a diehard Cards fan. Who knows.
