Yes, Things were not so chaotic. People moved at a slower pace. There was not as much traffic and no one have ever heard of road rage. You still got to talk to real people when you called anywhere. A nice house sold for about $50,000. Neighbors always knew each other, and actually socialized. Children could Trick or Treat by themselves. There was no such thing as a drive by shooting. People still had manners, and when you held doors for people at stores they said Thank You , and didn't look at you weird. Alot of Mothers still stayed home with their children and didn't have to work out of economic nessecity. Teens were not as suicidal, and in treatment programs. They actually made cars that you could work on yourself. Most of the tools were not metric. Couples actually took vacations together. Domestic violence was usually an arguement kept between a couple and no one went to jail.
I suppose I could go on endlessly and feel bad if you did not live then to experience the difference.
It was just a nicer time and people were not as bogged down with problems. You didn't have to worry about your computer crashing because most people didn't have a computer. There was no such thing as the internet, or online banking, or direct deposit. You actually had to go there, and you knew your bank president.

People generally are ruder, less helpful and civil to one another. It's harder and harder to get a break unless you're already wealthy. People are illiterate, and lacking what was once called common knowledge. We've all been agressively dumbed down by the tv brainwash.
We are not likely to be as proud of our freedom as we are to be either arrogant about our social position, or just pissed off because the whole game is so unfair.
Twentyfive years ago... that was already the beginning of the decline in America's hopefullness and decency as a nation.
We're in the pits now, and we'll really need to start paying attention before we are a people enslaved.
