A psychotic is someone who, by definition, is out of touch with what is considered to be reality. Reality is whatever the prevailing opinion of the surrounding group of people say it is. That's why psychiatrists can't diagnose someone as psychotic even if they have far-fetched religious beliefs that are shared by members of their church or faith. Psychosis has two main types of symptoms associated, hallucinations (perceiving stuff that doesn't seem to be there), and delusions (being convinced of something that most other people are convinced is untrue).
A psychopath is a much more encopassing concept. It's anyone who is known to have an identified mental disorder. That's the general definition. But in everyday use, psychopath has come to be understood as someone who has a psychotic mental disorder or who has some type of criminal insanity (a mental disorder making someone prone to engage in criminal or bizarre activity).

Psychotic tends to mean schizophrenic and the main symptom is paranoia. But in A more serious form people hear voices telling them what to do. If it is considered incurable and untreatable or the patient needs constant care or are a danger to others - they are normally considered to be a psychopath. It's like the difference between acute and chronic. Acute is normally short lived, chronic is usually for life and incurable. Psychosis is often curable, psychopathic is usually considered incurable.

I think psychotic and psychopath are the same. Are you talking about sociopath versus psychopath?
A Sociopath is someone who is more functioning on a social level. This individual has a huge ego and can not differentiate between right and wrong. Their only concern is themselves and will say and do anything, I mean anything, in the moment to get what they want. They do not feel remorse or have true feelings like regular people. Think, Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. Or, better yet, Scott Peterson.
A psychopath is someone who is delusional with psychotic episodes. Like seeing something that is not there.
Hope this helps.
You can do more research on the Internet by typing and searching for both disorders.
If you believe you are dealing with a sociopath, walk, don't run the other way. This is a severe behavioral disorder and there is no telling when this person will turn on a dime.
Psychotic episodes have been known to be successfully controlled with proper medication and supervision.

If you're a qualified psychiatrist you already know what they are and how to diagnose.
If you're joe bloggs you can note types of behaviour for your own information, but you have no business applying a diagnosis as serious as this on anyone.
A psychosis is a detachment from reality. The psychotic is living in a different reality to the one the rest of us live in, to them its as real.
A sociopath doesn't accept that others feel pain, or that their pain is important. When they make decisions they don't take into account the welfare of others. They can learn social rules to follow so that their condition is not a problem.
The term psychopath is no longer used.
