People have no personal values but have accepted the values that the 'consumer society' has given them. In a society where if you do not have big shiny 'things' to show what a 'winner' you are then you are looked down upon, people scramble and toil their lives away in a quest for these 'things'. Then they never know the true happiness of having peace of mind and just being themselves and being inner motivated. People never ask themselves what THEY personally want. They never even think to ask themselves that. What do YOU want out of life? Not what things but what do you want yourself and your life to be?

With wealth, you get more options, with more options, you can to do things that you really want to do in life, or help the poor (though I don't think helping others is not a general motive for most people who seek wealth). People are usually concerned about the present, not the future nor the past. If there is something that one can do now to make him/her happy, he/she may do it, even though there are consequences to it. Greed is human nature.

Because having a lot of money helps you replace those transient things with new ones when they go.

The word "wealth" in your question could be replaced with any human goal: love, peace, happiness, success, justice, beauty, whatever.
The answer is, just because something is impermanent, that doesn't mean it's not worth striving for. After all, what else is there to do?

Well, since you ask, everything is illusion. Just as with an illusionist's act, people want to believe what they see. Wealth is strictly a material perception, an illusion. People want to believe the illusion and disbelieve the transience you refer to.

some people think wealth is power ,can cause happiness and can buy them anything including trust from distrustful people
Money is a way to a means-home ,food and maybe a few extras.
