even though I am open-minded, polite, and sweet, I have a small percentage of bias towards races, genders, religion, and sexuality. I don't let that corrupt my judgment but I hate feeling like this. when I was a younger kid, I didn't feel like this towards people. why is it that when you mature you feel like this?

I dunno. I'm the same way, particularly towards African-Americans and I HATE IT. I mean, I would never say anything to anybody and I treat everyone with sweetness and respect-but once in awhile those thoughts go through my brain.

I guess after awhile, we begin to believe the stereo-types portrayed in the media and entertainment, mixed with the attitudes of the people around us and our own experiences (we always remember the bad, not the good). It starts to affect our thinking, and if we are not humble and recognize our own prejudice (most people don't) then we do nothing to try and correct it.

It has taken me several years to overcome my prejudicial thoughts, but once in a great while, they resurface. As I get older and mature, though, I am able to emphasize with others better and it helps me get over those biases.

I feel that the media creates bias in everyone to create conflict between groups. Not that society isn't biased enough already.

The media i think will affect younger generation more. They will form opinions based on what they see. They don't always look for the bigger picture. If you look at what newspapers publish, do your own research try to be unbiased you will yourself see how they create bias. Its your choice really you can choose to let the media brainwash you, or you find out the facts for yourself.

There are so many examples where the media have reported news of a young mans arrest. He was completely innocent but the people who knew him looked at him differently because the media had fed them crap. How can he live amongst those people?
