Blacks, Swarzes, are tolerated in Germany although the discrimination isn't as blatant now as widespread as in the U.S. If you're trying to learn the language while there, or seem to be trying, people will take more kindly to you. You won't be treated badly, but you may not be treated with the utmost courtesy either. Just go and have a good time, the same as you might in this country.

Not really, I saw some reports, when the world cup was on. They got a lot of persons of different cultures living now in germany. And the Germans seem very open minded. Just go ahead if you want to travel to Germany and don't hinder your experiences because of other people opinions. Have a good time!

There are both American's and black people living in Germany presently. Some of them are on work assignments and others are in some form of the service. I think as long as you are respectful you should have no problems. I have a friend that was stationed in Germany while in the Army. He had a blast, and he by the way is also black. So just be careful. You should have a great time in Germany.

Because you are American? No.
In some parts of the former East and in more rural settings you may experience some racism because you are black. But it will likely not be overt and if you are part of a group you may not even notice it.
As in any new situation, be aware of your surroundings and the picture that you paint to local residents. Be aware that they may not have seen someone like you before, some may stare (especailly little kids, but they're cut).
When you travel be aware of who you are, but remember that people are people wherever you go with the same basic needs.
Do not flash cash anymore than you would do in a dark, city alley.
Do not call attention to youself unnecessarily.
Do not be rude.
Try to learn words and phrases in local languages.
Dress in a few pieces of local clothing that fit your personality, but only wear them the way that locals do (express yourself when you get home).
Talk to people, but don't put them off. Europeans, especially the youth are very open and friendly and look for chances to practice English.
Avoid slang and American idioms in your speech.
I found Germany to be great, but had a problem with few Germans who became adults in the former East.
Neo-Nazis are still a problem and most Germans don't stick their noses in where it doesn't belong.
Read the local newspaper and see if there have been any recent issues with immigrants or Africans, which sometimes happens.
Otherwise, essen ist sehr gut! The patries, fruit and dairy products are excellent. Try doener kebab and schafs kaese. (kinda like a gyro w/ sheeps cheese, mmmmmmm)

Please! get over yourself! Many cultures have visited Germany, I have not herd of anyone being disrespected as a tourist in Germany. My family has been there on many visits. We are Puerto Rican, they are a beautiful culture!
So cut out the nonsense out about being American and black, big deal, many of our Military men and women are stationed there.
My sister's been there ton's of times and she was treated very nicely, according to her experience with the German culture! And I take her word for it.

nah. im in the military and was stationed in Germany for many years. for the most part, they are respectful. Im not gonna say theyll go out of their way to help you out or anything, but theyre not gonna treat you any differently. more than likely, theyll be courteous, just not overly nice.

I would think you would be safe at least in Germany. I doubt that being black would cause an alarm.
