skin peeling is normal. not having a bm is not. I'm sure you're burping her after each time she eats. My son had a similar problem with gas and no bm's when he was an infant. it turns out that he was having a bad reaction to his formula. Are you feeding her breast milk or formula? What kind of formula are you giving to her? She might be allergic. Talk to your doctor to get advice on which formula to try. Different ones will affect her differently.
To get her bowels to move, water down about 2 oz of apple juice with 2 oz of water and give it to her. She will pass a bm.
good luck, dear

Re: Her skin -- this is normal. She spent 9 months in water, so now her skin is going to peel and go through some changes. I have a 2 month old, and the hospital recommended a lotion called Eucerin for her skin. Try it. It really helps my baby.
Re: crankiness -- She is probably cranky because of the gas, as well as the constipation. Is she breastfeed or bottle? If bottle-fed, then you may need to change her formula. My daughter went through a few until her pedi told me about Enfamil Gentlease, which works great on her tummy. It helped with the crankiness.
Re: Bowel Movement -- Try adding a little more water to her bottle. For instance, if you fix a 2 ounce bottle, with 1 scoop of formula...instead, give her 3 ounces of water, with one scoop. When mine was a little constipated, her pedi suggested baby's suppositories, but I was a bit reluctant, so the pharmacist suggested the extra water, and she had a bowel movement. (Dont do it for every feeding. Only try it for her next two feedings, and see how it works). If you feel more comfy...call her doctor first to see if it is OK.
Blessings to you and your new baby!

Skin peeling is definitely normal. My daughter's skin peeled for a month or two, I just peeled off what I could without hurting her and put some lotion on afterwards. It will stop. She should be pooping at least once a day, or more if she is breastfeeding. Talk to her doctor. You may need to give her a bit of water in a bottle, but not too much just a couple of ounces a day. For the gas you should give her some mylicon or there is something called Greepe Water that works really good! Don't worry, everything will be fine. Good luck!!!

My first question is if you are breast feeding or using formula. If you're breast feeding the type of food you are eating might be causing the gas. If you're using formula you might have to switch to a gentler kind. I know they sell drops for babies at Wal-Mart to help them with gas - call your doctor or a hospital and see what kind they recommend. Also, let them know she hasn't had a bowel movement yet. I think it's been too long and you need to consult a professional. My child had this problem at this age and a nurse ended up suggesting a small amount of Karo syrup to encourage a bowel movement. Again, ask you doctor how much would be appropriate for your child. I think the skin peeling is normal - you just need to double up on that Johnson's baby lotion.

Skin peeling is normal -- you can give her a bath and lightly wash the skin off with a rag and use baby lotion or oil...it'll help. I would call about the bowel movement though... I have a 3 month old and he was having them within a week. It may not be anything at all serious, but it won't hurt to call your pediatrician. You may not even have to go in -- just a phone consult with a nurse.

Although it does not happen to all babies, skin peeling is normal. How long since her last bowel movement? if it's been more than one day, make sure you call the dr. tomorrow. In the mean time, while on her back, take off the diaper (but leave it under her), put her legs against her chest, and insert a thermomether slightly in her rectum, using a circular movement to massage. Seriously. I learned this trick with a nurse to help stimulate a bowel movement in babies, and it works. Good luck!

Well congrats! I know the feeling that you are going through, all this is so overwhelming but it will get better, and everything will come natural! You are doing great!
First of all is your baby on breast milk? If so this is not normal. They need to have soft stools up to 3 times a day. Go to the doctor now.
Is your baby on Formula? What kind? I was told that formula makes them constipated. And will give them gas.Especially if you switch brands. This hap pend to me. Since your baby is so young I would call your doctor any ways. I so know that MYLACON is awesome and it worked great for my son. Rub her belly and cycle her legs, this to will help. Also try to lay her on her belly and rub her back this may help her fussiness.
I love Enfamil I think this is the best brand ever! They have formula made just for gassy babies, this is another option.
As for her skin, yes this is normal. She will look like a shedding snake. I kept by baby lotioned all the time. I used the reg. fragrance free hugies aloe lotion. And his dry skin cleared up in 2 days! Also if her cord has fallen out five her a oatmeal bath. Aveno is the best. Also put baby oil on her head, and hair to help prevent cradle cap. You are doing great! and God bless. Go to this website. I am a member and you will get advice on anything!

Call your pediatrician. My baby was 8 days old and hadn't had a bowel movement, so they sent me to the ER. They took her temp. rectally and after that she started pooping normally. Take her temp if it is normal then wait another day. If she still has not pooped then call the Dr. With her peeling, use baby oil or baby lotion a couple times a day. If it is severe ask the Dr. if there is something else you could use. Good luck and relax everything will be fine.

are you nursing her? That's the best help and will eliminate gassy problems. Since she's only 9 days old, if you are not nursing, relactate so you can stop hurting the poor baby with formula.
If she's nursing and has this gas, I don't know what the problem would be. Gassiness is typically caused by the air a baby gulps in with a bottle AND by the terrible impact cow milk has on an infant human.

I'm guessing you're not breast-feeding, because constipation rarely happens for babies who are being nursed. Call your pediatrician about how to give her relief from the constipation and to discuss possibly changing formulas.
In this hot weather, you may want to supplement with some water. She could be a little dehydrated.
Make sure she burps! Too often we give up while trying to burp the babies if it doesn't come up right away, but it's very important, especially with bottle-feeding.
If the peeling skin is very superficial, it is probably just the outer layers that all babies shed after being in surrounded by fluid for 9 months. My son had cradle cap, where his scalp was very flaky - you can look it up online.
There's TONS of online resources for infant care -- I wish it had been available when I was a first-time mom 15 years ago!
