receive a gift, or a gift card?

I love receiving gifts from people who know me. I think gift cards are a bit impersonal, but, they do offer you a choice in what you end up with.

i would rather get a gift. it means a lot to me to get something that i know that person had to put thought into it, had to really think if it would suit me or not, if i'd like it......it's something chosen just for me! when i get gift cards i tend to buy what i need rather than something i want and i don't like that i do that. also when you get a gift everytime you look at it you remember oh, so and so gave this to me for my birthday but when you pick it yourself it's so much easier to forget the occasion it was for.

It doesn't really matter to me as either or is a good idea. I like it as well when my friends buy me something but a gift card is fun too it lets me choose what i want sometimes its hard for people to buy for certain people and this just makes it easier. Its also the thought of the gift card too the place where they are getting the gift card from could be a place that i really like and i think its great that they remembered what places i liked. A place that i have been wanting to shop i may not have any money and than wow its like she or he read my mind i love that place hey i have a gift card now i can go and shop and buy something for $20 and its on them. Its a nice thing to do for the person. I also like gifts from the heart too though. So yes either way works with me.

I guess it all depends on the person who is giving it to me....If the person Knows me and what I like than I would love the gift, but say it is from a co-worker or something for a birthday I would rather the gift card to get what I want. I don't think that gift cards are impersonal it is all in your preference I guess.

A gift, no question. It shows that the person knows you, knows what you like and put thought into a gift for you.

If the person doesn't know me well, I'd rather get a gift card than something bought "just for the sake of buying something".

recieve a gift card because then you can choose what you buy. Therefore you know you're happy. With a gift if you don't like it then you need to go through exchanging items to get the gift you want.

I agree with you 100%. If someone knows me well and knows exactly what to get, a gift is best. For those who don't know me as well, get the gift card so i can get myself something.

I would prefer to receive a gift because it shows that the giver loves you and cares about you so much that he or she went out and gave thought to what they bought you, and they have more memories in them. You can keep that item forever and remember that someone gave it to you. I recently received a recipe box, 2 books and some candles from my sister in law and it was one of the most meaningful gifts I've ever gotten because every item she gave me was a reflection of who I am.

Gift card hands down - you can choose what you want.

As much as I like giftcards, because I like to go and pick out exactly what I'd like....I would still prefer a gift.....I think it would show me how much the gift-giver actually thought of me.
