One of the best things to do it is get your "coloring" done. Someone who is trained in matching colors with hair/eye and skin tone, can do this for you. Your complexion is actually the condition of your skin, not the coloring.

Maybe you can help by adding your hair, eye and skin color. I could better help you match the best make-up colors to you then.

For now: Just some rules of thumb...

try foundation on a completely naked face and in natural light. Try it on your jawbone. Trying colors on your wrists and hands will not give you an accurate match for your face. Plus, formulas can change colors when they mix with your skin's PH balance. Make sure to always try before you buy.

Generally, dark colors work well on girls with darker, hair eyes and skin while lighter colors work on fairer colored girls.

Your clothes also play a huge role in how your skin looks. This is also another reason to get your coloring done. So, that you can be sure to wear colors that make your face look more vibrant and awake!

Hope this helps!

it is best to buy at Rite Aid where you can return the make-up if it isn't the right color. If they have testers, try between your neck and face. You don't want a visible line between the two. You can try it on your wrist. Make-up tends to turn orange or red, so even when it matches, it may be the wrong color. Macy's will tell you which color to use. Save your receipt at Rite-aide, try a color, wear it, look at it in the daylight with a mirror and see if it looks natural and no line between your neck and face. Pale complexion-use ivory or light beige, olive-try medium or dark beige, etc. It really is hit or miss because some make-ups turn orange. Loreal has true match. I always go for a lighter color, blend it good between the neck and face. I add blush for color. If you don't need make-up, just use a transparent powder compact and blush.

Sarah H is right; apply a little foundation in a stripe from your lower cheek, across your jawbone to the underside of your jawbone.

Why?
Because want the color of your foundation to be the same color as your face.
If a color blends perfectly enough to be invisible on your face and neck, you have your match.

Unless you are buying make up to use on your hands for a photo shoot, there is no reason to check the color on your wrist, palm or back of hand.

Before I switched to Bare Minerals, which is easy to match, I tried the liquid foundation called True Match (see drug store). It really does come in the right shade for everyone, factoring in both your lightness/darkness and whether you are yellowish vs. pinkish or neutral. Hold the samples up to your jawline. Bring a mirror. I think they may sell a little take home shade sampler too.

For foundation, rub some on the back of your hand to see how well it matches your skin. This is cleaner than applying it to your face when using a tester bottle because there is sooo much bacteria and you don't want to get them on your face! =)

actually you want your foundation to match the inner wrist, the back of your hand is generally darker than your wrist and if you were to hold your wrist up in the mirror by your face you will see that this color comes closest to your face. go with the answer that I recommended in your other posting and as the previous person suggested as well. see a cosmotologist in a higher end dept store they will help you with color choices

First, it's "complexion," not "complection."

Now that we've gotten that cleared up, you need to try L'Oreal True Match...it's great stuff.

There are lots of little testers in stores. Look at them and find the one which works best for you.

mach it up to your hand color, not your palm , but the other side. That usually matches your face color. Thats how they match it at the makeup counter.
