I deal with it.
I have always planned my trips, saving fuel.
I agree that the hybrids and electrics are very impractical.
But, most of all, I work within the Energy Industries and these prices have made work more plentiful for those of us who work in it and we have got some nice raises in line with the increased prices.

You mentioned an electric car, and how expensive they are -- well, here's what I did last year:
*
I bought a used electric car. It cost me only $2000. I spent another $4000 on it for new batteries, and to fix it up. So for only $6000, I have a car that doesn't need gas.
*
It's an old technology electric car, so I can't drive it 100 miles on a charge. I get maybe 40 to 50 instead. But I can still do almost all my driving in it. The electricity costs me only a penny per mile!
Here's a picture of it:

*
It's old, but still very reliable. Electric motors have only one moving part. There's almost nothing to break. For cheap electric cars, look here:

or on eBay. That's where I found mine.

I agree....Yeah it ****** sucks considering all the money they makin on people, but it could be worse. You could live in a third world country with no food, you could be in Iraq /Afghanistan getting shot at daily or be in the Mideast conflict etc. The real sad part is any company like Texaco/ Chevron could drop the prices if they wanted too, but they're greedy assholes. Be happy your alive and safe.

What can you do other than just deal with it? All the worrying in the world isn't going to change anything. I do pay more mind to where I by gas than I used to.

I've become more careful about planning my trips, and now I try to use a motorcycle whenever practical.

I have no choice but to deal with it. Anyway, I don't drive anywhere except to and from work.
