we are definately the problem, having brought the earth from comfortable stability in thousands of balanced ecosystems to a damaged planet with melting ice caps, increasing temperatures, polluted waters, and disappearing rainforests in a mere 100 or so years. we threaten each other with warheads capable of destroying the entire planet, each one capable of causing equivalent destruction to the mt. saint helen's volcanic eruption.
this being said, we are the only species equipped with practical and adaptable thought processes strong enought to solve the hole we have dug ourselves and the rest of our world into. If we really wanted to, we could stop the destruction we are creating and begin reversing damage within the course of five years, but unfortuantely, world politics, corporate greed, and citizen dependency on such things as gasoline, electricity, and plastics means that rather than coming up with a solution, we are still biding our time and watching as each year, the hole we have dug gets deeper and deeper.
well it is time for the world to wake up out of this illusionary trance that all will somehow work itself out, that global warming is a conspiracy invented by democrats, and that we are not on the crash course for disaster. we need to start making soem serious changes with the way we live as a race, and we need to start making them now before it is too late to turn back. we are the last generation that can fool around with the enviornment and not pay attention to the damage we are creating. From billions of years of careful and magnificent evolution, we are bringing Earth to its knees in a mere 100 years. The world 50 years from now is going to look a lot different the the world we know today, but how bad this scenario will be depends very seriously on the actions and decisions we make now.

humans are responsible for the demise of the earth. The could also be the sollution by fixing the way things are done. eg overuse of natural resources, over populating and needing to destroy more and more land to build houses etc... the last few generations have done a good job in making a big mess, but maybe the next few that are at risk will come up with a way to stop it. I know that natural disasters like the tsunami and katrina and forrest fires and other catastrophic events cant be blamed on humans...or can they? We dont know that there isnt a link to the problems we have caused to these things.

Neither. We're just some crazy species who got lucky because we sprung up during a time when no other animal was capable of stopping us from dominating the world. Now we've got the entire planet to ourselves and it'll stay that way, until we all kill ourselves or aliens do it for us... either one.
Seriously, I don't buy any of that "greater meaning" stuff... it's nice to think about, but I don't think we're here for any real purpose. This universe is bigger than we'll ever be able to comprehend, so in the broad scope of things, we're all pretty meaningless; so all we can do is just be good to our fellow man and try to make this world the best place that we can make it.
And we can do that by outlawing jaywalking and banning reality television, first of all.

Agent Smith said it best. We're viri. We move to a parcel of land use up all the resources then move to the next parcel. That's exactly what viri do. The human species is really a virus, a plague on the Earth.
