Take elemental iodine crystals (not the drug store "tincture of iodine"); Place in a laboratory mortar (mortar and pestle used for grinding). Cover completely with technical grade laboratory ammonia (not the household cleaning solution). Use the pestle to mash the iodine crystals, keeping under the ammonia. After a while, the crystals will all be in solution and you'll have a purple liquid. Paint that on things like hinges, keyholes, etc. and let dry. After it dries, almost any force will cause the crystals of ammonium iodide to rupture all at once, giving a small pop and a purple cloud.
