It’s a fight between cousins.

Both Jews and Arabs claim Abraham as the first of their tribe.

Both claim that God gave the land to Abe. Abe had two sons.

Ishmael, the son of Hagar.
Isaac, the son of Sarah.

According to the Arabs, Abraham chose Ishmael as his heir.

According to the Jews, Abraham chose Isaac.

They have been fighting over the inheritance ever since. Abraham should have had a good lawyer (probably a Jewish one, his mother is so proud) to draw up his will. Then the problem would have been resolved.

By the way. The international authority (UN) in 1948 partitioned the BRITISH Mandate into Israel and Palestine. (UNGA Res 181). So, according to international law, Israel does own that particular piece of real estate.

About 5600 years ago Moses's crew stole the "promised land" from the native arabs and it's been a pissing match ever since, no side wanting to cede land or power so they just continue to throw rocks at each other. During the last hundred years the rocks have become much more complicated and devastating.

To many of the answers you already have are too good. Sorry, but you will just have to go back and read The Bible. It is an eternal triangle - Israel went one way, Islam went another - and then you also had Christianity. I suspect that Zen also has a hand in this - the readings do have a parallel. There is but one God - but who the hell is she?

some fellas called the jews reckon god said israeal was their land....most of them left for one reason or other and then mainly the muslims occupied the land relatively peacefuly for many hundreds of centuries...then along came hitler in germany causing millions of jews to be homless...then along came the UK who thought it would be great to repatriate the jews to the land none of them had ever visited but a book said it belinged to them...this was such a lovely gesture but the arabs whom lost all their land and were forced out of their busineses and homes and became refugees in lebanon and other countries were less impressed. Ever since the arabs want their land and homes back and israel belives possession is 9/10ths of the law and says no way....hope this helps!

It's really complicated. There are so many different types of people, so many religions and sects of religions that it is inevitable that extremists from all sides will come into conflict repeatedly over the course of history.
