We all can travel through time (but always forward). We also can communicate through time (but always from past to future).

Relativity tells us how to move forward through time more slowly (go fast or go to a high-gravity region), and even how to stop time altogether (go to a black hole’s event horizon). The trick would be to move backwards through time, or to communicate from future to past.

To go to the past we need a flux capacitor and 1.21 gigawatts of power in most cases .. well that is what "Back to the future" tells us.

Personally, I just use my memory... it allows me to go back to the past very often.

I DO think time travel will someday be possible, at least I hope so... as to what that means? or if we even know it if we achieve it, I can't tell...

I do know a few things about it ... in that 1 - we currently do travel through the continuum of now at the rate of one second, per second.. ok it shouldn't need to be said and is a little silly but its true..

2 - time is not a matter of WHERE like the general concept, that somehow the past still exists now and the future somewhere exists now, its just a matter of going the distance to find it... time is about WHEN instead, no matter how FAR you travel in distance, you can never reach the past... can you?...

3 - its going to be truely amazing if/when it actually does happen, but history suggests that it won't, because if it is possible why hasn't anyone travelled to the past before?.. then again if they had how could they prove it?... many paradoxes can screw with your head from asking these questions... but I personally think its fun... and interesting

4 - well I can't htink of a 4 right now, the 3 I've given were enough.. right?...

hope this helps

We are already time traveling, but the rate is essentially fixed (it changes if you move close to the speed of light) and we are only going in one direction, to the future.

Smart aleking aside, controlled time travel to the past could be possible, but you may not be allowed to change anything in the past, no matter how hard you tried, without introducing a time paradox, you could at best be an observer

A thought experiment involving time travel goes like this:
assume that time travel is possible, and then someone goes back in time and change the past, and that world is changed after each time travel until it ends up being a time line when time travel is impossible.

Another neat argument is a variation of the Fermi paradox. If time travel is possible, where are the visitors from the future?

Your question is "do YOU think time travel will be possible".
As for me, I am sorry, but I think not. That's too bad, because there are a few things I would like to change; a group of people I would like to report to the FBI, a few days before September 11 2001, for instance.

Hopefully not.

There are so many little things that you could do say 4000 years in the past that would greatly affect the future. And it wouldn't be some kind of thing where you slowly disappear like Marty McFly, you'd be straight gone.

No, too many people think it is possible and it is really not. Space and time make up a fabric that makes up the universe. You can't really go back in time.

Time does not exist in the true sense. It is a human measure of constant change.

If you had a machine which did somehow transport you through time, for example, 1000 years, you would find yourself in dark; cold; empty space where earth will not be for 1000 years as earth moves though space.

Admittedly, not everyone here would be missed much if that happened, but I still think it's not a good idea to die like that.

Yes, but only to travel into the future. The past is set and attempting to change it would have serious effects on the present. Many of them could be horrible and could cause a paradox.

No. Everything in our universe is composed of physical time. It all moves from the present to the past at the speed of "c". Everything (physical) that has happened exists in the present, the physical aspect of it has just changed shape. There is no physical aspect of the past that is not existent in the present. This means there is nothing physical to return to. Concerning the future, that is also composed of the present, it just hasn't been put together yet.

Time travel. wonderful thought. Not possible to happen though.

there is a lot of possibilities the future will bring whoever time travel is not one of them.

Honestly, yes. As a matter of fact... I think the aliens people describe are actually a future version of people (after radiation, nuclear fallout, and mass destruction of the environment) comming back to study how it was to see if they can ever get it back to how it was.
