was shown on Channel 4 about 10 years ago, cant remember name: memorable scene: son trying to rescue mother from hanging, big fight scene where he uses benches and chairs to reach the rope to cut it, the benches and him balanced impossibly many yard into air - any ideas?

i thought it was once upon a time in china and bought the set, and as much as i enjoyed em, not the film!

Don't recall the exact name but it's an early Jet Li movie. Try 'Once upon a time in China'. Good luck.

The movie your talking about is Jet Li The LEGEND 2. its the final scene where his mother is being tortured by the leader of the Red Flower Society.
