Pregnancy tests nowadays are very accurate. I can remember when I was expecting my daughter, I sent one half of my sample to the doctors and did a test on the other half.[The reason being I had suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks and wanted to know the results immediately]. The test that I performed came out positive, but the test the surgery had sent to the hospital was negative.
When I spoke to the doctor about it she told me that the hospital tests were not as sensitive as those performed by the high street pharmacy. She sent another sample a couple of weeks later which proved to be positive.
Like I say that was over 12 years ago and I know that the tests are now much more sensitive to the hormone which detects pregnancy.
I went on to suffer two more miscarriages [at 20 and 24 weeks] and my little boy died when he was a baby, but I then went on to have another healthy baby girl. I can tell you that with each pregnancy I performed on average six tests just to make sure !
I hope that if you think you may/may not be pregnant, then the outcome is the one that you want. Good luck in whatever the results. x

False positive/negative tests
False negative readings can occur when testing is done too early. Quantitative blood tests and the most sensitive urine tests usually detect hCG shortly after implantation, which can occur anywhere from 6 to 12 days after ovulation.[1] Beta hCG levels rise exponentially in the first two months or so of pregnancy so the earlier the test is performed, the higher the chance of a false negative result. Less sensitive urine tests and qualitative blood tests may not detect pregnancy until three or four days after implantation. Menstruation occurs on average 14 days after ovulation, so the likelihood of a false negative is low once a menstrual period is late.
False positive results can result from diseases like choriocarcinomas, IgA deficiencies, heterophile antibodies, enterocystoplasties, gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD), gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (GTN), and testicular germ cell malignancies. Also, many home pregnancy tests show a positive or unclear result when read well after the suggested 3-5 minute window, independent of an actual pregnancy; this type of false positive is also known as an evaporation line. Additionally anyone who has been given an hCG injection would also give a false positive.
Some individuals react to some substrate in the test and thus will display a consistently low positive blood pregnancy test even though they are not pregnant. This phantom hCG may lead to serious misdiagnosis and intervention, but can be detected with serial dilutions. Patients with phantom hCG have a positive blood hCG but a negative urine hCG test

it happens mostly because the test may have been done too early in the pregnancy or the urine was too diluted...such as the test was done during the day when there were liquids taken and not in the early morning when no liquids were taken overnight. If someone ovulates later in the cycle than around day 14 then the test needs to be done at least 12 to 14 days AFTER ovulation

How pregnant are you?
If its the early stages maybe you either got a wrong reading from the first test or the one you have just done.
Maybe you need to get it checked by the doctor?

It has to do with the level of hormons. If the level isn't high enough, it will not show up as positive even though you are pregnant.

If you do it too early there isn't enough 'pregnancy hormones' for the test to detect that you are pregnant, thats why.
