Are there laws protecting our security department if our gated community incorporates into a city?

We are not a normal security department; we are an Emergency Services or Public Safety Department. We respond to law enforcement calls, and do traffic control in the village, including using radar, and issuing fines to violators. We respond to fire and medical calls as well. We are armed, and our patrol vehicles are registered emergency vehicles with the state, and are set up with red and blue lights, and sirens. Apparently the gated community is planning on incorporating, and contracting the local Sheriff Department for Law Enforcement, as opposed to making our agency a P.O.S.T. certified agency. I was wondering can they do this to us, and just put us out of a Job.

If I understand you correctly, once your gated community incorporates into the city, you could see if they kept you on as the security department. The other option might be to talk to the city council and see if there is some way to merge with the local law enforcement.

They can fire you anytime they want to. You work for them.
