Odd isn't it that these puritanical right wingers have such scant trust in our government. Thinking about this gives me that feeling up my spine that there is a lot here not being said, carefully.

That's it! Don't worry, you don't even know those kids that American policy killed today in Lebanon. Whatever you do don't think about the consequences of American foreign policy.

As for drug addiction and interdiction, what the right wing is always concerned about is consistent employment for idle mercenaries. Old mercenaries never die, they just need time off to collect their share of the American standard of living. Having lots of tax payers money is no fun if you don't have time to spend it.
So, if the drug War was curtailed, what would happen to all those retired special forces type that have now been lured into a lucrative position in our undercover private army?

Yes, I do think it should be regulated, but by state governments, not the federal government. The federal government should impose another tax on it. The federal government should then put that money towards good things, education, drug rehab programs, health care, and the state governments should do the same.

I think if they were legal a lot less people would do them, children would not be able to get their hands on it as easily as they do now (it is currently MUCH easier for kids to get drugs than alcohol), and we'd stop wasting our money!

Should have done this a LONG time ago!! The Feds need to tax it and regulate it. They could get rid of national debt by the end of the month!!! No joke!! But why don't they do that? Because they are in bed with all of the drug dealers of the world.

The Government, but if the government sold the drugs of abuse it would have to make them legal.
Making these drugs legal would of course bring the cost to the consumer of drugs way down, which would bring them into a price range where many more people could afford them. It would also make it possible for a heavy user of these newly legalized drugs to be able to afford them without committing crimes such as robbery burglary. or prostatution
Sure there would be more people doing drugs what ever would we do about that and don't forget the kids they would start doing these now newly legalized drugs thinking that it was OK, of course they also wouldn't be shooting each other for a street corner since the possession of said corner is no longer worth $10,000 a day.
The legalization of these so called drugs of abuse would also leave the drug cartels with a greatly diminished cash flow there by reducing there ability to support terrorism, reduce the population of our prisons and make us safer in our own homes, Closer to home it would reduce the violence we witness in our streets and again, reduce funds available to street gangs who continue to terrorize our neighborhoods.
The legalization of these drugs would bring millions of dollars into our Government coffers. Said monies could be used to help support halfway houses, drug rehabilation centers and drug education in our schools. If the abuse of these drugs is a sickness then what better way to pay for the treatment of that sickness?
It is apparent that the only thing that the crimalization of drugs of abuse has done is to make criminals of our sons and daughters, inrich those who trafic in these drugs, instill a lack of respect for athority in those who decide to use these drugs, devide us as a nation into users/non-users a reason for us to feel supearior to "those people" and give your local congress man another way to prove that he is tough on crime.
We woke up to the fact that prohabition was not working when will we wake up to the same facts about drugs?

The spell checker is down.

I understand what you're arguing; although, it's a pretty weak argument. I guess this is a rhetorical question? It is true that the U.S. looks the other way when it comes to drugs. "Just say no" doesn't work. I also think it's sad that many third-world countries export this gnp to the Western world.

No, our government sanctioning the use of illegal drugs is no answer either. Resolution of this issue is almost as futile as peace in the Middle East.

actually that's not a bad idea, you can use the money from the drug deals to arrest and harass drug users , not to mention the government will do a better job in regulating the drugs.

as near as i can tell both are already making money from drugs. as reported our pres. has a past with drugs and as i understand co-cane was one. as i understand co-cane is one that few get away from. look at the afgan war for example. as we wage war against the so called enemy the poppies or untouched and being sent to this country as we speak. you have the us armed forces there and you just ignore the giant drug trade of the afgan country.

If you don't think this govt. looks the other way to drugs coming through our borders, your pretty naive. Sure, they seem to catch the little guys crossing over small amounts, but the real drug traffickers bring them in with this govt. consent....These people have enormous amounts of money, if you have enough money, you can buy anything, including politicians....
