I can understand people using these vehicles for large families or business purposes but it seems as though so many people are getting these gas hogs because 'its the thing to do'.
What gives with that?

Why do people living in Ghettos drive 71 Caprice lowriders that get 8 miles to the gallon? Don't just single out SUV's because its the "hip" liberal thing to do at the moment. There are far worse vehicles on the road that are driven by Liberals!

P.S. Al Gore drives an SUV as well as many celebrities!

Another good question: Why does Madonna have a new toliet seat installed everyday, wherever she is at (including her own home?) Like she could catch anything from there anyway... she is the type of person most people worry about sitting on their seats!

I know what you mean. I'm in the UK, and it's happening over here, too. In some instances it makes sense - if the drivers are living in the countryside where a vehicle like that is needed or if they have a family large enough that they need some kinda people-carrier, but most of the time you find it's housewifes using them for the school run or business men who just think they look cool - not only does it waste gas that we need for other things, it's terrible for the environment!

I don't know where u live at, but where i live there isn't a gas "crisis". The prices are just way too high. If people are willing to pay that then that is their business not yours. I have a SUV...i didn't get it b/c it was cool...i got it b/c i have a family. Don't bash people b/c they want family vehicles.

because most of those people like myself have had one since way before gas prices were high,i for one do not complain about gas prices, there is nothing that can be done about them so why fight it?pay for your freakin gas and shut up!if you are really serious then take a bus or walk, simple as that and i don't think people that drive suvs are to blame for anything!we just make oil companies richer because we are dependant on oil, sure id like to have something that didn't use much gas but i wasn't thinking of that 8 yrs ago when gas was affordable.

People like to feel superior on the road and SUV's can offer that. I agree with your sentiment and feel that is almost like fiddling whilst Rome burns.

There is in fact a lot of oil left in the USA which is not being tapped. In fact there is still something like $3 trillion dollars of oil left in the world. The question should really be, do SUV drivers really not care that they will be changing the climate for their children?

How much gas does it take to fly a 747 to cancun ? People do it because they can afford it and they want to. Why do millionaires have big houses that use $1000 a month in utilities. Why do people go on a 400 mile vacation when they are just wasting money ? ( even if they drive a honda civic )

I can't answer for everyone, but 6 kids and a dog means that I drive a Suburban. If you can find me a mini-van that seats 8, plus a dog, and has room for the groceries, I'll take it!

We have gas "crisis"?
When did that happen.
The price is high, but you can get gas on every street corner.

It will sort itself out, it is a self regulating mechanism, once the price to do something gets beyond the ability to pay, people will do something else.

All your feeling is 'competition" for product. (gas in this case.)

The crisis will happen when it is not available at all.

What crisis? I don't see long lines waiting for a limited supply of fuel, do you? Plenty to go around. It's freedom of choice. You want a big car and can afford it and the fuel, why shouldn't you buy it? If you don't, don't. Seems simple enough.
