I believe its just a culture concept, whereby the East Asian population see the West as being powerful, influential and wealthy which could be what they're trying to emulate. More and more i'm seeing people interested in the East but I've never heard of anyone having surgery to make themselves look oriental, although I've heard of people adopting fashions, lifestyles, phrases and music.

I think you just have to remember that its more of a Generation X idea of having surgery to "correct" their eyes, but the majority of the people in the East you will find are proud of their heritage as are many Westerners. Dont let the minority become the majority in your eyes!

only insecure people go under the knife to look like something they aren't. I knew many asians during my two years in asia, and none had even thought caucasians were idealic in appearance. the asian male thinks highly of caucasian women, but mainly because the asian woman is so culturally looked down upon, while the caucasian woman is not.

many asians - particularly south asians such as indian and thai people - also partake in skin bleaching. from what i understand, there is a white standard of beauty in asia. many asian top models and beauty pageant contestants are not in fact fully asian - many are half-white. in fact, many are half-white and half-latino - not asian at all. this white standard of beauty has been growing in popularity since the days of colonialism.

i don't know of anything specific that white americans do to look more asian. i do, however, think that it has become "cool" to be non-white in the US. the popularity of tanning booths & possibly breast implants is evidence of this.
