i'm NOT asking whether or not you think it could happen. i AM asking what would happen if everyone did just go into the woods and stare into space for a whole year in meditation. would this be a statement in nihilism or an incitement(dont even know if thats a word?) in chaos? what would the effects be? who would benefit? who wouldnt?

we'll say this so every one doesn't try to cop-out with the starving thing. eating a fistfull of bugs a day will sustain the human form. you can do that and it would still be considered doing nothing,or next to nothing.

The restated question assumes that we would be able to sustain ourselves without actually moving much. So lets assume that there is enough ambient food that the entire population could sit down and do nothing for a year.

A lot of people *would* die, because a lot of people die in any year anyway, and in this case there would be no assistance or medical intervention, plus a year of immobility would cause and exacerbate circulatory problems. But I don't think that's what you were asking, either.

The weather would change from the sudden cessation of factories and motor vehicles. The pH and temperature of some waterways would change.

Some people would go mad. Some people would gain great insights. When people first returned to civilization they would all share an expereince, and we would see all kinds of grand plans and reconciliations.

And then the world would go largely back to the way it was.

mother nature would benefit. mankind would not. no crops would be planted or harvested, hence nothing to eat.no production and maintenance for one year? total chaos. economy down the toilet. but think about the benefits to nature. no pollution of the air, sea, and land for one whole year. maybe mother nature deserves the break. i say we all go and sit in the woods together.

Define nothing. Nothing to me means absolutely nothing. No eathing, no preparing food, nothing. So to answer your question the way I see it - we'd all perish. Someone has to grow food, someone has to pick food, someone has to prepare food. Without food - we all die.
