Well, migosh, as a guy I really enjoy seeing these ladies, but I suspect it is mainly for comfort, rather than appearance. Men wear loose fitting shorts and shirts, which are also comfortable. I believe that is probably the current sports fashion. If men wanted to wear shorter shorts and that were the fashion the best reason to do it would be for comfort. I hope this qualifies as a serious answer. I have no idea why basketball players went from the short shorts to the knee-length shorts they now wear, but if it is more comfortable I'm all for it.
