I have not heard that they stay alive after they have been split in two.. however, they stay alive for up to 9 days if you sever their head from their thorax.. or body. The nerves and everything else are still alive because of the brain parts on both ends.. however.. nothing stays alive if it can't eat. NOW.. who actually took the time to research this, and actually take a cockroach and cut only its head off, or split it in two.. is beyond me.. they are nasty little creatures. No matter what species of roach it is.

Alohas

Yes you can cut a cockroaches head off and it will continue to move around until the body dehydrates to a point of death. this is true of many insects I might add.

I think earth worms do but I know not about roaches. except you can kill them with this stuff that comes in a tube called combat its cool they die from it and it keeps them away, you should try that instead of cutting them in half.

They can live for something like ten days if their head is cut off.

They die purely and simply because they can no longer eat.

The wonders of nature!

Yeah, but they won't live if you smash them with the flat side of the knife blade, instead of chopping them in half.
