What is a First Love?

Okay I know what it's supposed to be but what exactly is a first love? I've had boyfriends before but never loved them. I thought I did but I now know I DID NOT. I'm married now and love my husband very much so would he then be my first love? I know this may seem like a stupid question but I think I know what a first love is but just want to make sure. Thank-you

In my opinion, your first love is one that haunts you all your life. It is typically one where the relationship dissolves without your consent, but the love never dies.

For example:
You say you love your husband. OK let's go with that as a fact.

Again for sake of discussion let's say your husband dies in a traffic accident. You grieve and so forth but finally move on and remarry. The problem is that deep inside you always carry that secret, that "first love" for your first husband.

First love is the love in your thoughts at the time of your death. Nothing, absolutely nothing can destroy that love.

I don't think you can know "first love" while the relationship exists. Only if it destroyed leaving loose ends.

Gee that is pretty heavy stuff but it is all the opinion of an old man. An old man who is there...

I think that gimpalomg answered the question best. Its true. I am still having haunting thoughts of my first love, I honestly wish I never knew what the feeling of having a first love was. I have been married a long time now, and I still think about my first love all the time. Would I want to be married to him today? Absolutely not. I love my husband to death. But my first love is always on my mind.Honestly, I wish he wasn't.

IMO a first love is the relationship that you have finally learned to make good and last. all my relationships could have been a 'first love' if only i had known HOW and i truly miss all those beautiful girls i 'loved'. it took me 49 years to finally study and learn from counseling, books, meetings, etc. HOW to do it and what luck - my partner/spouse also learned the same things. it's so easy - why did it take so long to get hurt enough to stop and finally learn HOW!
now days the info is everywhere and so no one has an excuse to do what i did and fail to acquire the knowledge and skill to really do a first love right.

First love is usually when your a teenager and fall in love, but in your case your husband would be your first love. Many of us as teenagers mistook our first boyfriend as our first love when we surely didn't know what love was or about. So your lucky to have your first love as your husband.
