I have disconnected the power, removed the line to the dishwasher, and removed the pipe to the other sink. Now the thing left is removing the actual disposal from the base of the sink, but it will not budge. I have unscrewed the three screws from the connection and can twist everything. any ideas? any websites that might help?

You will need to reinstall the three screws which you loosened. These hold the basket strainer assy, / disposal adapter in the bottom of the sink. This unit needs to be tight so that you can loosen the collar with the three tapered fins on it that hold the disposal tight up against the rubber seal under the adapter. You should be able to loosen the collar by tapping on one or more, if you can reach them, of the small round tube -like protrusions on it. They should move counter-clockwise to loosen. Be careful to support the disposal at this point, as when you get the collar to loosen it could come off completely and allow the whole unit to drop suddenly. If you're going to replace it with a like unit, you don't even have to remove the sink basket, if it's in good shape, just hold the new unit in place and retighten the ring.

The three screws need to be left alone. There is a flat nut very close to the bottom of the sink. The nut usually has three places on it that look like one inch long tubes around the outside. Insert a screwdriver into one of the tubes and loosen the nut until the disposal is released.

Good Luck

There should be a large screw type washer holding it in place. These can be tight. If you can lightly tap on the fins of it with a hammer to see if it will budge. If you have a pipe wrench big enough use that just be careful not to damage the threads on the sink drain.

There is three loops of metal at the top of disposal. Get a screw driver and put it through the loop. Turn to the left and it should rotate off.
