What is the meaning of royalty in todays world?

What is purpose of royalty. Kings and Queens and all that jazz. What makes them so special other than living off the fat of the land, and enjoying tax payers money. What is it really all about. Its a system that has breed prejudice based on class and culture, thats all it. At the end of the day, royals are magget food like the rest of us.

Its just been passed down, they don't actually rule anymore, but it has to do with their family blood and status
