I am changing the motor to a holley 4v with a new mallory dist. I can figure out the motor end (I say that know ,lol) but my experience with trannys has always been with kick down linkage. I have a 700R4 with a shift cable. I can figure out the cable , but is there any computer controlled parts I should look into for the trans? This is my work truck , so I dont care about the back up lights , passing gear , etc . I just need it to go. Thanks

350s in that year were not vortec. They became vortec in '96. That's beside the point though. You should only have to worry about the cable. There's nothing else to worry about on it other than the lock up on the torque converter, which may or may not work after you swap the engine. This means the engine will not be turning as slowly going down the highway. There is a module that you can buy and hook up inside the transmission that will still allow it to lock up in overdrive. A parts store should be able to help you get one. I have personally done this on my caprice, but you'll probably want to have a switch for it so when you're in town it doesn't lock up, since it will lock as soon as it shifts into overdrive.

I also have a 91 Chevy 4X4
It has a Vortec 4.3

I recently had a problem that you should look into before you make the swap

For some reason My tranny Torque converter wasn't locking in til I hit 72 mph

The cure for this was the idle sensor on the throttle body it was defected, after the change it would lock in at 55 mph
Hope this helps..

JUST to note:
My engine is a Vortec,I had to install this last year,it came from a 1994 Chevy 1/2 t. pickup.
