Yes, I had five oscars for about two years before I sold them. When I realized that feeding them live goldfish was sending me to the poorhouse, I started looking around for a substitute.

Oscars are mostly carnivorous and so they need more protein in their diet than a lot of tropicals. Look for a good quality pelleted dog food that has close to 45% protein in it and you will be fine.

I fed mine pelleted dog food for almost a full year and they were all over 12 inches long when I sold them. If you are careful, you can even get them to actually take the pellets from your fingers.

Oscars actually recognize the person who feeds them and seem to enjoy seeing you when you come to the tank. They are great fish and seem to have individual personalities. Mine just outgrew my tanks.

Yes you can feed some Dry dog foods to fish. But why would you want to do this. Most dog foods contain many of the ingredients that fish food does like Fish Meal wheat flour and Soy Protein. You would want to use a dog food that dose not make its own gravy. You would have to shave or crumble the dog food so that medium and small fish could eat it. Insects from a bug zapper can be added into the food to give the fish more protein. Because the food is not designed to float it may sink to fast for top feeders and it will cause the water to cloud. It is better to feed you fish food designed for them and to feed the live or frozen foods (Brine shrimp,) at least once a month.

Hmm, depends what kind of fish you have and what kind of dog food you're talking about. Usually the dry food will be ok for SOME fish, but the moist one that comes in cans will probably hurt the fish.

OK- no- fish food is for fish and it is smaller and more expensive by the pound than dog food is. Feed your mastiffs a high quality food for large and giant breeds (wellness, eagle pack holistic, etc) feed them twice a day according to the directions on the bag for their age and weight. didn't you know they would eat alot when you bought them??

dog food is not the right formula for fish and contain grains and other proteins, that they wouldn't normally eat. this diet will "eventually" kill your fish, some say it makes them obese. if you ate candy everyday and nothing else you'd become very sick, because you're not getting the right nutrition. do not feed your fish, dog food or cat food. people do it, because it's cheaper and it's also harmful. if you love your pets, buy the food they need.

Yes, look at the ingredients, it's basically the same. We give whole dog food to our oscars, and groung up dog food to our smaller fish. Works like a charm!
