Use a strobe light to attract their attention, a fog machine out by the start of the maze, or some bright red lights to lead them to it. Sound effects also help a lot. (a cd of groaning or scary Halloween music) For the lights, or anything that needs a power plug in - you can use an extension cord, then clamp the light to the wood. ( think of those lights guys use that hook to the hoods of their cars when they work on them )

Also setting out some home made headstones that lead the way to the maze, you can write a spooky message on each headstone and also have some broken looking signs with cobwebs on them pointing to the maze.

Have a friend help you. Stick them in a reaper looking costume (black sheet) and let them 'JUMP OUT' at the kids and point them to the maze. (hehe I love that one, always gets screams)

Look up on google.com sites for Halloween, type in something like 'how to decorate outside for Halloween' or 'Halloween Ideas' there are tons of home made web pages from people who go all out for Halloween, they give you lots of advice and directions on how to do things.

Have a Haunting Good Time with it. (that was bad, I know)

P.S. You will find that using 2x4's or small sized lumber (or pvc pipes) works cheaper and easier than plywood. Just build the frame of the maze, and then wrap it with thick black plastic bags or the plastic gardeners use to line the soil so weeds don't come up. You can duct tape it, staple it, tie it, or nail it to the wood frame you put up. If you already have the plywood though, go with that. Just make sure you reinforce it so it doesn't collapse on some kid who gets scared and knocks his body into it on accident. (seriously)

At the entrance of your maze, which I would assume to be near the front of the building, I would make and post large posters... use glow-in-the-dark paint in your lettering, so people can see it at night. Put flyers out on utility poles (check with local codes or laws first!). Have sound-effects playing near the entrance, also to attract visitors. Have someone stationed near the beginning to point the way.

Have fun with the planning! Wish I could see it when you are done creating it!

Well, the entrance to the maze needs to be flashy/creepy...so what if your entrance is at the side of the building...its a maze, they don't know that! Isn't it going to require a lot of ply wood to build a good maze? maybe you should use something cheaper instead?

20 years ago we'd get about 40 ghouls and goblins, but now we get about 15, mostly older kids. This year it falls on a Monday so we may get more. If it's on a weekend, local churches lure the little kids into their parties so the parents don't have to take them around the neighborhood. Too bad. I enjoy handing out candy to see how my neighbors' kids have grown and what costume they've chosen.

well halloween can be dangerous when kids are out of sight, so you might want to use wood posts and large plastic sheets so the kids inside the maze can be seen at all times., but try adverting to bring the kids in, flyers, small spot lights, etc.

Signs, lights and posters in flourescent paints are a great suggestion. Can I just say that whatever you decide please be careful. I don't want to put a damper in your great plans but you must consider safety. Around here everyone is law-suit happy.

Sounds fun - but also dangerous, with possible liabilities. Maybe use something like bed sheets?

Great idea!!!!!
You could get someone to guide them in, like a spider into her web.
OR:
signs that dare the so-called brave
OR:
promise candy.........................
