I know it's hot, BUT....
When I was living in SW Michigan a more rural area my friends and I would grab a camera, lots of film, dress in our coolest clothes and jump in the car. We'd drive to abandoned buildings and take photos. Photos of the building, each other posing like models, etc... It was always fun to scout out a new place to take pics. Our favorite places were huge old buildings like closed factories or old houses. (Just be careful about messing with actual trespassing or risking your lives--I am NOT suggesting you go INTO falling down derelict buildings!!!)
We'd get some really great shots outside with the buildings as backdrops. Other options are to go to open areas, even vacant lots will do, something with a plain backdrop can create some really dramatic photos. We did this even if it was boiling hot as it is right now. Why? Better than sitting around and wondering what to do.
If it is really too hot, you can do something similar inside, set up your own photo studio, hang some solid white and black sheets in a corner, take a household lamp or two and set them nearby with the shades off for maximum light then snap away.
Mind you we did this back before digital and most of our photos were in black & white. But you can still get cool photos using any kind of camera, digital or cheap throwaway kind. If you use digital you can either set it to black and white for artistic effect if the camera has those kinds of settings or you can change them to black & white, sepia or other cool effects on your computer. The same for the cheap throwaway kind, nowadays it's actually pretty cheap to get a photo cd with developing and you can do the same, crop, use effects etc...
When you're all done, make a scrapbook for you & your friends.
If you're on your own, just grab a camera and hit the streets looking for cool things to snap, it can be as simple as a person with an interesting face waiting for a bus, a flower coming up through the cracks of a sidewalk, kids playing in a playground...the only limit is your imagination really.
If you want some inspiration this is a link to my friend's website where he's posted the pics of long ago...plus he's got more recent photos, including some very artistic ones that he believe it or not took in a model railroad museum.

just remember....BE SAFE, if you're by yourself please stay in well lit populated areas, and if you're with friends don't go into boarded up or condemned places. Hope you find some fun!

Hmm. Michigan has 3300 miles of shoreline (more than any other state except Alaska) plus 11000 inland lakes. What does that mean? Michigan has more beaches than any other state. And, the best beaches in the country are Great Lakes beaches, especially the east side of Lake Michigan. What is better than going to the beach and into a great lake to cool off?

Watch how the people drive. LOL. They are some of the worst drivers in Michigan.
