I DONT NORMA LY USE BAD TASTING WORDS TO DESCRIBE PEOPLE BUT I HAVE REFER ED TO THE OFFENDER AS A **** BECAUSE OF HER SERIOUSLY BAD HABIT OF DRIVING WHILST ON A MOBILE PHONE.
WE MISS HIM DEARLY AND OUR HEARTS WILL ALWAYS BE WITH HIM.

The short answer is that it didn't but it's difficult for the police to get convictions for offenders. It's far easier to get convictions for driving over the speed limit since cameras and radar can PROVE the point. I'm just waiting for some enterprising boffin to come up with a portable, cheap and inconspicuous mobile phone frequency jammer that I can fix, unobtrusively to my car and jam every blighter I see on roads, motorways, busy junctions, roundabouts and any other location I can think of where these idiots have a mobile phone clamped to their ears and give them a very painful ear experience that will last a couple of weeks or so. If I'm offending any habitual user then - how can I put this - tough! Personally speaking I think the use of mobile phones, whilst driving, is a greater offence than exceeding the speed limit - unless of course the speed limit is being broken because the driver is on the phone and oblivious to the fact there is a speed limit!!
Jam the blighters - that should cure them.

The law is that you cannot use your mobile phone if you cannot use it 'hands-free' - If it is hands free then it is okay. Actually, I think that you are really just talking about a bad driver who would probably have taken you off your tandem even if he/she wasn't on the phone. Good drivers and bad drivers - and as for the really stupid ones that speed through our village - well!

I think the police took it seriously for about a week then the novelty wore off as it became too much of an effort to enforce it.

It didn't. Many lawbreakers on the road, you can spot them from a distance, they are all over the motorway, left, right, not indicating, they are pi$$ing me off!!! I give them some body language when I drive past them. Lots of V v v

It is still the law, and if this person had been seen by a policeperson, then they would have had a £1000 fine!

It hasn't but the 4x4 and white van men haven't noticed that it is in force. Never mind they still haven't been told that it is also illegal to park on the pavement.
