terminal alkynes are seperated from internal alkynes by treating with metals
Terminal alkynes react with metals to form metal acetylides and remain as ppt
internal alkynes donot react with metals and they remain in solution

The terminal alkyne will react with cuprous ions to form a precipitate, while the internal alkyne will not react. The precipitate can be filtered from the solution and the terminal alkyne reconstituted with acid.

Treat alkynes with Tollen's reagent. Terminal alkynes will precipitate as the Silver salt.
