First of all to answer your question, if you need a c-section due to a breech baby, that is a valid reason to get one. A c-section is generally a safe procedure, over quickly and you get good pain meds.
Some things to know:
Tell the anesthesiologist/nurses to give you the anti-nausea meds BEFORE you get sick, not afterwards. Hard to stay on top of things that way.
Don't suffer through the common side effects of pain, nausea, gas, itching, etc. There are medications for all of these things.
Don't be surprised how sore you are the first few days. Getting up the first time is rough. It does get better each and every time.
I don't want to scare the original poster but I can assure you that a c-section is definitely more dangerous to mother AND baby than a vaginal birth. Babies and mothers are more likely to suffer complications, both short term and long term. C-section can interfere with bonding and breastfeeding (although these are temporary).
No question, hands down c-section recovery is harder. I am a postpartum nurse and I have cared for hundreds of women who have had c-sections and their babies. That said, c-sections are great if you or the baby need one! Breech is an excellent reason to schedule a c-section. There are ways to try to turn the baby but they can be at best ineffective, at worst painful or even dangerous.

Just let the doctor do the work, and be prepared for a longer recovery time. They make a smaller incision these days, and in the other direction, so it makes for easier healing, but its still much longer than a regular birth.
Dont be afraid to refuse to leave the hospital if its too painful to move. They kick women out way too early these days.
And whatever you do when you get home, for a couple of weeks, DO NOT sweep the floor. Seriously, that is one thing the doctors told my sister not to do after a caesarian, because the muscles used are the ones you just got cut open and sewn together. PAIN! Get someone else to do it if you are irritated at the mess, but don't do it yourself.

Don't worry. Just remember what is important is that the baby is born, not how the baby is born. I am pregnant with my 4th child and all 3 of my other children were born by c-section. The first two were emergency, the next was planned and this one will also be planned. There is some pain afterwards but it just doesn't seem to bother you as you have this wonderful little baby to take care of. I didn't take any pain medication after my 2nd and 3rd children and won't after this one because I just didn't need it. I was so ready to be involved in my child's life that it didn't even dawn on me that I was in pain. All of my children were born in the evening and I was up the next morning in the shower. I am not saying that you will be up ready to run a marathon. But if you take things slowly, it's not as bad as you would think.
Best of luck!

How far along are you?
There are TONS of things that you can do to turn a breech baby.
pelvic tilts
ice on fundus and heat on pelvis
shoulder stands
putting at light between your legs
playing music between your legs
do handstands in a swimming pool
chiropractic care - the Webster technique
moxibustion
accupressure
external cephalic version
See the links below. I got my breech baby to turn doing pelvic tilts, the ice/heat thing and shoulder stands. I think the shoulder stands were what really did the trick.

It's going to be good enough. Know this: You are hormonal so become aware of that a lot of your fears are coming from an inbalance there that's no longer beneath your manipulate. My daughter used to be younger whilst she gave delivery to twins. She used to be afraid of the suffering, too! She is my daughter and I love her with ALL my center, however allow me inform you- she is a WIMP! The BF would not even exhibit as much as the sanatorium. Once she used to be all installed to the displays and he or she used to be in fairly difficult exertions she suggestion it used to be happening without end however then just about immediately she used to be stuffed with this great peace and I consider it is in view that endorphins kicked in. She used to be pleasant after that after which... after 20 hours of work and not using a meds, they needed to do a C-Section. She now says she does not even recollect the suffering and the entire factor went by way of speedy! The second she held that little one she says used to be valued at the whole thing. You can be pleasant. Tap into the web boards for pregnant females so you'll be able to speak this over with identical people. Best wants and benefits to you and your little loved ones!

I had my first C-section back in Nov 2003. It is normal to be scared. I was so scared also. After seeing the doctor in there and his helpers I was feeling much better. You can feel the tugging and the pulling at your stomach. Its big pressure ! That's what it feels like. The C-section wasn't to bad for me. It was recovering afterwards. I have had three natural births also. I would have natural anytime then a c-section. I understand this might be the only option for you. Just relax when your in there and I am sure you will have someone in there with you when you deliever. Just hold their hand and let them support you. You will feel better, I promise ! GOOD LUCK !

I didn't need a c-section but I found some great information in "What to Expect When You're Expecting", I reccommend checking it out at the library or purchasing a copy...that's really all the advice I can give you since my copy is still packed up from moving! But my cousin said it wasn't bad at all, just make sure that you get up and walk around as soon as your nurse oks it...makes recovery easier and quicker.

I had a C-section when my twins were born. It is scary! But it's all over in about 30 mins. it only takes about 5 mins. to get the baby out. You are gonna feel like you got hit by a truck afterwords but will start feeling better after about month it's real hard to get around at first make sure you will have lots of help when you first get home. Bring lots of pillows with you they really help to make you more comfortable in the hospital. You might want to bring some snug pantys with you to because at first you feel like your insides are going to fall out through your incision. Good Luck!

NO BIG Deal, In fact my mother was with me when I had my daughter, and she was jealous of how easy a cesarean is. I was up and walking around in a couple of hours! Many people are now opting to have a cesarean instead of a natural birth...look at the statistics...the only draw back is i now have a lower belly above my incision, that you cant even see my incision...Good Luck!

Don't worry. A C-section is possible one of the safest surgical procedures out there, and you'll be perfectly fine. They'll put local anesthetic so you won't feel a thing, and that's that. If you're afraid you'll be alarmed by the sight of doctors cutting you open, then let them know and they'll take appropriate measures.
But really, don't be scared.
