My friend is a pathological liar. It has destroyed her marriage and all her friendships, yet she continues to do it. It's as if she actually has begun to believe all of her lies. When confronted, she just tells more lies. It has become a huge complicated web of lies with differest stories told to different people. Ofent times, it seems there's not even a reason for her to lie. Why does she do this, and what is the best way to deal with it - confront her, e-mail her, be forceful or sensitive? I know deep down she is a good person, I think she has very low self esteem, but I cannot be her friend if she won't admit to this and get help. Is there any chance she will do that or is it a lost cause?

it is a OCD condition - she needs to get medical help - confront her in the sake of friendship, tell her you are concerned and only want to get her the help she needs. How can that be offensive, it is compassionate.

A liar has a very low self esteem, past issues, and needs to be comforted by creating a fantasy world through lies and exaggerations..you already know that they are a liar or it could be you-if it is you then ...hmmm...look deeper and realize that the truth always reveals itself...and you can change your behaviour patterns if it is someone else...let it go because it will only get worse.

Sounds like my ex husband. I really think this is some sort of disability, or disease. You can either accept it, which is very hard, or you should probally just walk away or back off from being close friends. I dont think they change, it just gets worse. They will actually fabricate stories, then start believing them. After years, I could not deal with it anymore. Lies about nonsence things. Look up "SOCIALPATH" . It will describe her to a "T". It's very sad, and be careful, one day you will be her target.

This person will say or do anything to get attention. You can't change her; she has a mental problem. You can't believe anything she says, so how can you continue a friendship with her? I'm sorry, but I would rid myself of this problem before it got way out of hand.
