You need to get an International Driver's License, but they only work in conjunction with your native license and only valid in participating countries. Make sure to check with local authorities whenever you visit a foreign country.
International Driver's Licenses aren't actually licenses. They're mere translations of your original license as proof of your ability to drive. Each country has its own laws regarding foreign driver's licenses.

As far as I know, US licence is in ENGLISH. It should be licenced in an ENGLISH recognised country. If u go to places like China or Japan or Korea or any other countries that does not use english as their major languange, then u need to do an International Licence.

It depends on the county. In Germany you have to take their test. Its much harder than in the US
