I moved from Louisiana after Katrina and I am now living in N. California. I hate it here. I will be moving back to Baton Rouge LA until our house in New Orleans is livable again. However, I have accumulated some furniture and what-not in my 7 months here and I am finding it to be very expensive to move back home! Suggestions?

Unless it is very good quality furniture or you are attached to it for some reason, just sell it. Online services like E-bay and Craig's List have made it easy to sell surplus furniture, and equally easy to buy decent used furniture on the other side, for a fraction of the cost you will pay to move it all. Best to travel as light as you can on a transition like this.

If you can drive a small truck , then go with U-haul.
