Why should s/o who is more qualified to get a position be turned down so that the place can be racially diverse?.....Why can't the people (not gonna say any type) who need affirmative action work hard and get in on their own.

Working hard pays off. If you are unable to work hard, then why should you be hired/accepted to this position?

I'm completely against it as you can tell!

u know, the whole idea of affirmative action is a very nice one.

but you know....so is communism

ideas are one thing, but they must be executed well and not take away from deserving people.

I personally am not in favor of it, but I do see why it exists. Being in management I have seen numerous times where a minority's application went immediately into a circular file based only on ethnicity without it even being really looked at. The problem isn't work ethic, it is access to opportunity. Whether people want to admit it or not, a minority walking in the door of most corporations is already at a disadvantage before they have even said hello.

The only way to eliminate the (perceived) need for affirmitive action is to create equal access to opportunity. But until people can truly get over their preconceived attitudes, that will never happen.

Wow...I don't know where u live but I haven't seen it. In fact I've seen the contrary....people hooking other people up because they were the same. The person getting the hookup lazy, unqualified and always trying 2 put her work off on others. In this situation I was a nonpaid student and she was the paid employee. I couldn't understand how she even had the job..when I was a student knew and could apply more knowledge than she did in our field. She had been licensed for six years.

That was the 2nd instance that I noticed this phenomenon going on.

I guess every situation is different and depending on your perspective you can always find a way to feel slighted if things aren't going a way u think they should. Just know that door swings both ways. There is an unwritten hookup action that precedes the affirmative action.

I, personally try not to get discouraged by it and do the best that I can and know that I will be taken care of regardless to people's "unfair" behaviors.

Take care...

I do not know where you stay but i know where i stay and in my country that is all you hear about is AA (Affirmative Action) and OK so maybe some people were discriminated against in the past and maybe some people still are being but does that mean that I have to suffer now as well. Most of the people who are AA candits can really not do the work and you get one F*****k up after the next and to make matters worse the AA candits run the country as well so yes AFFIRMATIVE ACTION sucks big time. Give all people no matter what color a chance and may the best QUALIFIED person get the work.

yes I'm tired of it,I was told that it was my state main objective to hire more minority's and immigrants. I know that are people who are more qualify than me, but be actual told this really hurt.
i was also told that government asstiance will go to minority or immigrants first than me. I'm also against it. There was a big fight at the University of Michigan over it just recently . the one student had a 3.50 avg, involved in all kinds of club, etc, high test scores etc,. the scholarship went to one student that had a 2.0 ave and had done no clubs etc. tell what is fair in that photo. the 3.50 student had enlisted in the army to just to school.
that is one example on how unfair it really is. I have other example also but i don't want to start a fight or anything. but this one is a great one the aa thing dose not just apply to one or two groups either. After the storm Katrina the displace residents were given jobs at the big three, for the people who don't know there is a waiting list to get in. The Gov of Mi bypass the process for the displaced residents can get the job that was not fair for the employees who were layoff or where one step away form getting that job. all because of affirmative action.

All people need to do is to work hard, and it will pay off.

i agree with you to a point. i think the person who best qualifies should get the job. Unfortunately without affirmative action in place there are a lot of jerks out there who WON'T hire the best person for the job simply based on race, creed, gender, sexuality etc etc etc. Things that have nothing to do with how well a person could preform the job. Definitely the person most qualified deserves the job. So it's a double edged sword. Either way someone who is not qualified as much as another could get the job based simply on idiotic things.

Yeah i agree...

You from South Africa? If not, well then u have no idea what affirmative action is...

Nowadays in SA it really hard to get a job, especially if you r a white male. Only way you can make it, is on your own... And even then, the goverment still wont support you, you still have to have a BEE partner...

Dont know what BEE is, google it...

I say best man for the job...

The theory of affirmative action is that if you can raise the income of entire groups that now are relatively poorer, their increased spending power makes everybody (EVERYBODY) richer. Economists consider it the easiest, least expensive way to increase everybody's income. One article said raising buying power of now poor groups would boost the GNP and profits by 30 %. Not bad, not many people would turn that down. Structural poverty in the economy is a difficult problem to deal with and its destructive. I am not saying I agree or disagree with the theory behind Affirmative Action, but that is the economics behind it.

For law school admissions, a proposal has been submitted by a former employee of the law school admissions council/services organization.

The DOJ assigned the proposal case no# DJ 169-73-0, on April 5th 2005.

The tools for challenging your denial into law school now exists and with the DOJ having the details and historical data, the perfect storm has arrived for AA. When implemented, the process can applied (with modifications) to Medical School and should we elect to fund the infrastructure, we can apply the process for our graduates who wish to seek attendance into the various colleges and universities.

Racial affirmative action is stupid. If they want to help poor people, they need to make the criteria based of wealth not on race. There are a lot of poor white people too in the same situation.
