Putting aside the price factor, what brand DVD-R media is the best?

i think the BEST is whatever your burner has no trouble using.
i have seen expensive dvd's not work on certain types of dvd drives
while cheaper dvd's would work on the same drive.

try different types until you find the type your burner likes!

TDK scratchproof with UV-protection.

Without UV protection, the disc will become unreadable when you put it in the sunlight for prolonged periods. Scratchproof: they'll say you need at least a swiss army knife to damage it. That might be a bit an overstatement, though.

Don't forget to check the contents after you burned the disc. Preferably, (also) on another PC. When ok, then store in a dry, not hot, not freezing, not moisture environment (like kitchen), dark place. Keep them away from children.

Agree with Dave R on taiyo Yuden and +Rs
Verbatims are also good. If your burner supports bit setting you can record the +Rs as DVD-ROMs which makes them compatible with most players.

But if I was you, I'd use DVD+R instead, since obviously quality is important to you.

i haven,t had problems with any brands,but some older players can,t read r+
