A midwestern state recently sold the state turnpike to Communist China to get some needed money. Do you think public assets like the TVA or your water supply, or highways you drive on, or state colleges and universities, or national parks like Yosemite or Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon, should be sold to Communist China or other investors to pay off the national debt? Or would it make more sense to raise taxes on billionaires, or end the war? Sincere answers, please.

This money ought to be spent via the federal government, invested interior the interior maximum sector, back to taxpayers, or some mix of all 3. regrettably, many policymakers have recommended allowing the federal government to take a place those extra balances interior the interior maximum sector. this could be a formula for disaster, which might threaten the economic device besides with the aid of fact the retirement protection of all human beings."

How about - instead of selling them off - rent advertising space? Can't you just see it now? A big sign for say, Pizza Hut on one side of the Washington Monument and one on the other side for a gentleman's club? Go to the Lincoln Memorial and there's old Abe holding a sign for the Yellow Pages. And surely a couple of car rental agencies would pay a lot for the right to plaster a sign on the side of the White House! The possibilities are endless and would bring in much-needed revenue so Bush could pay for another war instead of helping bring about a balanced budget.

no, your idea is simply idiotic. the only federal spending that creates debt is overseas spending. anything spent here is taxed and retaxed until the feds get it ALL back. wars create debt because the spending on war takes place overseas. clinton was too cowardly to defend us as we were attacked 11 times while he was president. no defense, no new debt. if you want to get rid of the debt real fast, simply have the government re-issue US notes, like Kennedy did in 1963. No interest involved with that money. No more t bonds would need to be issued with US notes. within ten years the entire 8 trillion debt would be gone

There are some assets like the fort that is in the middle of Wakiki beach that could be sold, but I don't believe that most should be sold. The real answer is that congress needs to completely stop the concept of pork barrel spending. That would fix the budget in one year.
