The goldfish was one of the earliest fish to be domesticated, and is still one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish. A relatively small member of the carp family (which also includes the koi carp and the crucian carp), the goldfish is a domesticated version of a dark-gray/olive/brown carp native to east Asia (first domesticated in China that was introduced to Europe in the late 17th century. The mutation that gave rise to the goldfish is also known from other cyprinid species, such as common carp and tench.

Goldfish may grow to a maximum length of 23 inches (59 cm) and a maximum weight of 9.9 pounds (4.5 kg), although this is rare; most individual goldfish grow to under half this size. In optimal conditions, goldfish may live more than 20 years (the world record is 49 years); however, most household goldfish generally only live six to eight years.

search for Goldfish on "http://images.google.com" you'll get to see good pics of it.

More then likeley it is ulcers. All healthy goldfish have a "slime coat" that protects your goldfish from the bad bacteria in your goldfish aquarium entering the body of goldfish. Goldfish u lcers can be caused by something piercing the "slime coat" of your goldfish, like a sharp object in your goldfish aquarium , however, most of the time the goldfish ulcers are caused by goldfish parasites. You can treat the goldfish ulcers, however, if you don't eliminate the goldfish parasites which are the cause of the goldfish ulcers the ulcers will return.

The main goldfish parasites that you should eliminate are gill flukes, body flukes, lice and anchor worm. One of the best products on the market for treating flukes on goldfish is "PRAZIQUANTEL " (Prazi). Prazi will not stress your goldfish or kill the "good bacteria" in your filter. Fish Lice and Anchor Worm on your goldfish can be treated with "DIMLIN " which will not set back your aquarium filter or stress your goldfish .

Goldfish u lcers can be treated by cleaning the sore with iodine or hydrogen peroxide on a Q-Tip (make sure you do not apply to the goldfish gills or eyes) do not treat more than once. Start feeding a good medicated food like our "Medi-Gold " ASAP.

It might be natural coloring. I know Koi have natural color changes that might be true of goldfish. I would call a store that sells fish or an aquarium. As to that it might mean nothing except that you have beautiful fish. Swimming flowers or living jewels ast the mention in the oriental culture.

remember to change the water every 3 days. if you have a circulation system, it's much better.

Unlike most fish, they like to swim in cold clean water, and they love hiding in plants. They get scared easily.
