Why is there so much pressure in the media for people, especially young girls to look good these days?
Why cant they just develop their own style, instead of keeping up with all the fashion magazines?

Isnt there enough pressure on them to do well at school and get a better education, than to submit them to fashion pressure as well

It up to the parents to teach thier children that everything you see and hear isn't always right or true. My girl is 8 and she's going to be a tall big beautiful woman. I don't think she'll be over-weight but she has some Swedish genes. I always kiss her belly and tell her she's beautiful just the was she is, that magazines are not the answer to what we should look like or be.

to a certain extent looks matter...if you are so hideous that people feel sick when they look at you, then you have a problem. Apart from that i think external beauty is over-rated. The majority of people put in magazines as beautiful women are actually not so great, they either look like skeletons or have such ugly personalities that their beauty means nothing
as for fashion its not so important to as many people to keep up with it. I think certain trends have welcomed people to experiment with what they wear...of course there is pressure but it is so easy to ignore, people jus choose not to.
personally im 17 and im TINY, so its not like i could defend myself against bullies or whatever but i wear what the hell i like.
yesterday i went out in rolled down boots all tied up, jeans that i'd cut into shorts, a vest top, legwarmers on my wrists and a teddy boy hat, and NO ONE said anything to me about it. If tiny little me can do it anyone can.
no teenager can complain about peer pressure, because all they have to do is ignore it and it goes away.

With techonology and media being the number 1 factor in our world today the pressures to overachieve and become something special is mis-interpreted by many. what you need to do is true to your core being-be comforted by who you are as your own individual style-look and never under estimate what you are personally good with internally and externally. The media and fashion are guides and tools to help each of us view the world as a progressive place only; but we see these perfect people woman and men-but are they really perfect...? They take us out of our lives and provide conversation that's all-believe in your utmost potential and the rest will come.

What you wrote is the best answer. You are so right! So much pressure to look perfect by magazines really gets me. No one
REALLY looks like this. If I had stylists and make up artists I would look great too...and don't forget the tricks they can do with the cameras.
Looks don't matter THAT much. All you need is to look
clean and neat and natural. Always the best way.

to some people they really matter.....to others they don't matter at all!
because people feel that styles and trends are only developed by celebrities and the media......if they don't follow that special look they will be like "social outcasts." because im a teen you get pressured by your friends to have the right clothes and accessories. the other day i got a coach wristlet for the first time after my friend instead i needed one. when i got it home i realized that it really wasn't more than a name of a company that made it soooooooooo special.

To me looks don't matter at all. If you are ok with what your wearing then that's all you need to know about fashion. Most people care about looks. There is a big difference between that and just wanting to look nice.

to an extent, yes i think looks do matter, more or less for different people. i think u shouldnt totally not think about the way you look, because u dont want to look like a total tramp. i think that personal style is important, girls should wear clothes that reflects their personality giving them identity. if we all just copy the fashion idols, we'll end up looking up like sheep and wont be interesting at all.

We are all pressured into looking good and buying the right clothes by the clothes and cosmetics companies. If we want to look good we must buy their make-up and wear their clothes. And the worst thing is that everyone falls for it!

Media makes money from making you feel inadequate so that you'll buy products that would magically 'cure' you of you inadequacies. Having confidence and a good support system will help against this. Reading a lot helps too.

it's completely true, they want everyone to look the same, have the same personality and style, but girls, well anyone, should be able to decide how they want to look or act, without the pressure of trying to blend in.
