I get up Monday through Saturday at 5:30 am to swim. On Sundays I "sleep in" until around 6 or 7.
So as not to disturb my housemates I usually turn on the computer or read the paper.

I used to be the first one up - now the baby is kind of getting adjusted to my schedule so he is waking up about 6:30 with me, so I go ahead and feed him. Usually I just go ahead and put some dishes away, and start the coffeepot, maybe check my email and the answers site while I have a cup of coffee. My hubby is a pretty heavy sleeper, and I can't make the bed till he's out of it, so I just do things anywhere but in there. Of course, our house is one of those old ones with the funky thick walls so sound doesn't really carry back into the bedrooms so much.
When I was small my mum always just started clanging around doing things anyway, it never bothered my dad but got all three of us kids up so we learned to wake up early, I guess.
The only time I've ever had my sleep pattern be a problem is when I have to stay at the in-laws - they are night owls & sleep in like my husband, and when you're at someone else's house it's awkward. So if I'm there I go for an early morning walk instead.

Hey friend - I'm the first one up in my house. 5:00 - like clockwork and I have lots to do. For one thing, our situations are different - I don't have a small child in the house - mine is 20 and she's back for the second time (left for college and back) and now on her way out again - New job/career on a Cruise Ship to Hawaii. At any rate, at that time of morning, I'm getting ready for school. I "try" to have a cup of coffee, watch the news, gather my school bags, etc., wash any left over glasses, check the calendar for anything I have to do, make my bed, grab lunch (if I made it) and I'm out the door about 6:30. Takes me about 30 mins to get to school. On the weekends - it's the same thing. I still get up early - but I practice my piano music (headphones, so I don't wake neighbors), clean up, get hair cut, groceries, start Sunday dinner, maybe take in a movie, go to the library, work on my music for church, work on my lesson plans. SLeeping is foreign to me. I get maybe about 4 hours. Now, you can find something to do. Are you involved in any crafts? Can you sew? crochet, knit? write in your journal, clean out the pantry, cabinets, get a yard sale together, go to the library - take your daughter during the Tots reading/show and tell days. Have a picnic in the park, get your nails done, visit with friends, volunteer at the children's hospital, or elderly care home, write letters to people you have not been in touch with, take a class - check your community papers for the local schools that offer classes - you could take ceramics, or something really sharp and start on your Christmas gifts. Join a ladies barbershop quartet - doesn't matter if you can't sing - do it anyway. There are lots of things you can do to keep busy. Good luck and get crackin' (smile)

During the week I am up first because it takes me the longest to get ready. On weekends I am up first by choice. This gives me chance to have some quiet time to myself. Do things that you enjoy or will make you feel better. Like a relaxing bath, reading a book, taking a walk, giving yourself a pedicure or browing Yahoo Answers.
Do something you enjoy and soon you will find yourself loving these quiet moments.

I have lived alone for many years so I was used to doing what I wanted. I am living with a family (my brother and his family) now. I am usually the first one up and i try to read or go on the computer to stay quiet.
