Rumor has it that the big oil companies donated like $65 million dollars to the republican party in order to help with their campaigns. It is also said that this is the reason why our republican goverment hasn't done anything about the sky rocketing gas prices. If this is actually the case then next election would it be wiser to choose a Democrat in office and hope the can get our economy back on track?

The sad fact is both parties get huge somes of cash from the oil companies. Although VP Cheney had energy meetings that he refuses to reveal what went on in those meetings. No government official has ever kept energy policy secret. Let's look at a few facts. President made part of his fortune in the oil and gas field. Vice President was CEO of America's largest oil services company. Oil at record prices and America's residents paying near record prices for gas while oil companies make all time record profits, and get tax breaks on those profits. Of course their is collusion.
The government regulates the price your power company can charge you because they have a monopoly. You can't drive without buying gas, you have a finite number of choices for gas, yet there is no regulation of fuel prices. It's time the people spoke up and demanded a policy that moves us away from fossil fuels. GM manufactures vehicles that can use E85 fuel, but in Cleveland, the only pump that has it is owned by NASA and the public can not use it. The oil companies will not put E85 pumps in their stores as it would reduce thier profit, and the government will not require them to. What a scam.

Except that lawyers and lobbyists give almost the same amount of money to Democrats.

Also, there is nothing wrong with the economy. Consumer spending up. Unemployment down (4.6, i think). Stock market good. All this even with high gas prices.

Exactly what should the government do about gas prices? It's captialism. That's the way the system works. If you want lower gas prices then perhaps the Democrats should stop blocking any legislation that involves drilling in the US or building new refineries. More supply means lower prices. Maybe the environmentalists could stop lobbying for so many blends in has that pushes the price up. Maybe people should go solar, or use public transport more.

I think that gas is a lot of money right now also.
But I don't think that putting a democrat in office would do the trick! If that happens then why don't we just give the other half of the US to China! I have always been a republican I like and believe what they stand for I will always vote for what I think is right.I don't understand why gas is so high now if it "cost so much to obtain it and refine" it.I see that the oil company's are making millions then their last quarter. I just think that I would rather live with higher gas prices then open the rest of the USA to foreign country's that would like nothing more then to drive our markets down and out source our jobs.

Oil companies donate large sums to both parties. Currently, the party in power in Washington D.C. is the Republican party. In actuallity more money and priority has been given to seeking development of alternative energy sources under the Republican administration then we saw under the previous Democrat administration.

The simple answer often provided to the problem of high gas prices is for government to impose price restrictions. Unfortunately, price restrictions tend to result in reduced accessibility. That is what occurred during the previous gas crisis when people waited in lines for hours to get gas.

What planet are you living on? the US economy is back on track and has been for a while. The sky rocketing gas prices are directly related to what the Arabs have been charging us for a barrel of oil and the high gas taxes that democrats like Gov.Rendell in PA put on the people.

Keep on watching and listening to Moore, Al Franken & Baldwin- your brain is sure to liquify and leak out of your ears.

The problem is that the republicans have control of the voting machines. America is the ONLY country that has privatized voting machines...and there isn't a paper trail...so you CANT do a recount. There are definite problems with the voting systems that need to be changed before a fair election can ever take place here.

If the rumor was true that these oil companies did that then yeah probably. But then again what was the last republican to have the economy where we would like it.

Wouldn't do any harm but they also contribute to the Democrats. The fact is that USA is only a democracy in name and is actually controlled by an oligarchy of wealthy barons who offer the people a choice of 2 crooks to boss the people around.

First, do a little research prior to any of this. The price of crude oil is what makes 75% of the price of gasoline, which OPEC sets, not big oil.

Learn economics before sounding like an idiot.
