When i'm out or with friends I act very jolly. even though I have very heavy problem inside me. I just can't share it with anyone because I have no Idea whats my problem is. I just know I have one. When I get home, I cry, I'm lonely, I feel vain, I feel empty, I'm like that whole day! but when i go out of the house I just can't bring that emotion up. It's like it hides inside me, I know it's there but it wont come out until i'm alone. It's very difficult being this way. Am i crazy? I hope not. I don't want to have any psychiatric treatment of any kind they might tell me I'm crazy. I might believe them, I might become one.

It sounds like you may have depression. Don't worry, there are many things you can do which may help and no, you are not crazy.

Try lifting your serotonin levels naturally. Foods which are rich in the amino acid 'tryptophan' may help. Tryptophan turns into 5 hydroxytryptamine in the bloodstream, which is a precursor to serotonin. You can look these up, but bananas are good!

Sunlight also produces serotonin, which is why people who suffer with 'seasonal affective disorder' (a form of depression) use light therapy.

It may help you to get some counselling, just in case the problem is deeper than simple depression. Depression may be the effect, but we need to get to the cause. This doesn't mean you are crazy, it just means you need to talk some issues through with someone.

If everyone thought like you, us psychologists would be out of business:)

If this is on going year round then it may be clinical depression. If it occurs in the winter/fall it may be seasonal depression. If you really don't want to see a counseler try some activitys. Such as, excercise is a good stress relief. Lay out in the sun ofcourse with sun protection. Go to the lake. Keep your shades up at home. Research indicates that light is good for us. Some psycholigst will use light therpy on some of their clients.

Find out what your interest are and get involved. I have found that education has helped me. I was quite depressed and wasn't even sure why. I decided to go to college and I don't feel depressed anymore. Somebody suggested that I go to school and I would feel better. I thought they were crazy but I thougt it couldn't hurt. Now I know why I felt so down. I didn't feel that I had a purpose here on earth and I wasn't going anywhere in life.

It's weird how when i was down I just couldn't figure out why and then a couple semesters into school it dawned on me that I felt so much better.

If this continues then seek help. Getting better doesn't always involve meds but if it does don't worry about it. I am guessing that there are alot of people who have to take some kind of meds be it for depression, cancer, heart problems ect.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!

From what you are saying here, it sounds like you are lonely. It's a very common thing for people to feel sad (without really knowing why) when they are alone. Friends probably won't know how to listen if you try to talk about it, but friends will probably accept hearing you say that you like to be with them. My advice is to be sociable. Hang out with friends when you can. Understand that being with friends makes you feel better and -hey, surprise!- your friends might feel better because of being able to hang out with you. It works both ways. If you want to understand your feelings better, I suggest that you write in a journal- privately, just for you- about whatever is on your mind. Write honestly, then read it later. You will get a good idea of what is happening in your complicated feelings by this very simple process. Don't obsess about it. People are not really happy all the time. There are a lot of sad things in every life and hiding from sadness doesn't do much good, but neither does focusing too much of your attention on it. Accept that you feel sad sometimes, use journaling to find out why you feel sad sometimes and build the parts of your life- your friendships- that make you feel happier.
We're all in this thing called life together, even though we are each in it alone. Don't be afraid. You are already brave enough to face the fact of your emotional turmoil, so you are on the right track. I hope this helps.

No, I don't think that you are crazy but yes, I think you have a problem that needs working on. If you REALLY don't have an idea what could have caused the problem (problems in childhood, somebody you loved who dumped you etc) then it might be an idea to go and talk to a professional - they might be able to help you digging and find the cause of your unhappyness.
in the meantime try not to let the dark feelings throw their shadows over your life, go out, mingle with people and avoid being alone and cry away... Good luck.
If you don't want to see a doctor, a priest might be able to help, too. Sometimes it's guilt hidden deep down in us that makes us unhappy...

Two ideas. One, something happened to you in that house that your mind has the doors shut on but you still feel the weight of it. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. For this you will need cognitive therapy, no way around it.

Two, there is something in the house you are allergic to like mold or animal dandruff. Have a mold inspection done and get the carpets steam cleaned and your air ducts sanitized.

Good Luck!

Before you had this problem go back and find the person you were before you became this way, then look at whats in your life that causes this problem. I felt the same way once so i moved to another state met new people and went to colledge. I put my time into something constructive, interesting and challenging. you can do it also.

It is depression, my friend went through that years ago. With help she is doing better... a lot better. Trust me it will go away. You have to make sure you go to a doctor. It is a chemical imbalance in your brain. Its not a big deal but you should really go to the doctor. Hope you Get better.

Sounds like clinical depression. You need to talk to a professional and possibly be medicated to raise the seratonin level in your brain.
