Build a bridge to the other side... then while in the process, I could set up a camp as it may take overnight. Then the following morning, I might jump off the cliff so that I can get to the bottom and walk to the other side and climb up to fix the end of the bridge. Then continue my journey. When I'm done and wanna go back home, then it's time for me to turn around and go back.
Seriously, I'll build a bridge to the other side:)

I would set up camp, and at my leisure examine the situation before deciding what to do next. That might not be the best spot for bridge building, and I might need to move laterally a bit to find the right place to do. Jumping off the cliff or retreating would never be options that would even occur to me. You must always move forward, but rarely is the doing so such an urgent thing that you need to blindly start building the bridge before you've had an opportunity to scope things out.

C. I'm all for building bridges and making new roads, but sometimes I'd pick D. if there was a second path a short way back. Wrong turns and dead ends happen.
