$3 to $4. And no, the color doesn't make the price different. It just depends where you go. Male bettas are the ones that are colorful and come in many colors. I have one that is white and blue, but they also can be red, blue, white, off-white, greenish or a mixture of any of these colors. Female bettas aren't as colorful and don't have the long graceful fins. You can only put one betta by itself. Even males and females will kill each other. Don't keep it in a tiny vase or bowl. A one-half gallon bowl or gallon bowl is your best bet, and your friend will have to clean it once a week. Buy them some AquaSafe water conditioner and some Hikari betta food. That's all you need for a betta.

for the fan-tail betas that are avalible at every pet store I would say $3-$5

but if you are looking for fancy betas like Crown Tails and Half Moons you have to find a breeder near you or order them off the internet. One fish could run you about $15-$150 depending on the breeding and color quality.

I would also not recomed to get one for a present unless you know the persion has a tank and food for it. If they don't then you will have to buy a tank and food.
