Eighty percent of all things that she buys, she returns. She even returns gifts to the store. I refuse to shop with her because it is embarrassing. Anyone else experience this?

Perhaps you should insist on picking out things for her whenever you shop with her. Judging by your picture, you have a good sense of fashion and such. If you make purchases for her, she will be so impressed with the tasteful products that she will not see a need to return them. Good luck!

I used to work at a department store, and there were a handful of people that bought and returned things constantly. These people usually had their receipts and tags still on so it wasn't a problem, but I often wondered why they do it. I got another job at a different department store, and there they were, shopping and returning at the other store as well. They must have been very very busy with all of the shopping and returning. What puzzled me most is the time some of them spent agonizing over each purchase and asking for help. I'd help anyway knowing it would be returned. I just figured they were lonely. It would have been interesting to know their motives.

Simple, Your granny love's to shop! My mother is the same way. She has plenty of cash, but, always searches out for the bargain's. My Mom get's home, feels guilty about the purchase then returns the goods the next day. My Mom is at the mall twice a week that way.

I think it's called buyer's remorse.

"Fundamentally, it is a natural human reaction, rising out of a sense of caution. It cannot therefore be considered "bad" although it may also stem from a sense of not wishing to be "wrong". In an extreme situation, an individual who struggles with or cannot accept the possibility that they may have made a mistake, may be suffering from a more serious and severe condition that is truly little to do with "buyer's remorse".

Frequently, the anxiety has its roots in the individual's failure to accept or acknowledge the simple fact that most purchases are either reversible or that any item of significant value may be resold, albeit with some degree of discount."

Nope.. never shopped with my grandmother. Sorry to hear about your woes - but I commend you for your patience. I dunno, maybe she's bored.. likes talking to people? One of the things I usually do is, if I want to get something, I'll sleep on it for a couple days - and if I still want it by then, then I might go and get it. You could tell her to do that next time.

.. then again she'll probably just return it huh

Just read previous answers - I agree with the people who've said it probably gives them a sense of control.. interesting. Wonder if I'll be like that.

Yes, you are describing my Grandmother. I sometimes think it is because it "gives her something to do". I truly believe she is a shop-a-holic. Seriously. The simple act of buying and purchasing gives her something to do and a sense of control.

Whether I am right or wrong, I don't know. But I can definintely relate.

She loves to shop.
I worked with a lady who could not drive and constantly bought things online and returned almost every one of them.

She's your Grammy ...If it makes her happy then support it.

Also my mother grew up in a time when...If there was a new product they had to get it or be considered old fashioned.

i only can give you two options when she is in the supermarket she is in a hurry so she just buys them by the time she riches home she reads the chemical contents and freaks out and returns them or she buys things on riching home she remembers what she went there for and hers no time or use for the pruducts thus returns thus it is termed as memory lapse
