You must be young, at least younger than 50 to ask the question. I'm 35 and my definition of old changes the older I get! :-) The average life span is well over 50 and with modern medicine, most people will probably live into their 80's. I have thought about how life will be when I get older. Times are going to be hard. The more technology we get the easier life is supposed to be, but with more technology comes more responsibility and more maintenance to sustain these levels. So, in some respects it is harder that way.
Over all, though, I think technology advances outweigh any disadvantages. As we get older, quality of life issues are going to be bigger social concerns. Because we are living longer, we are going to have medical conditions like Alzheimer's that will affect many many more people. And, how do we handle this? Do we have the infrastructure, economical, or morality to support this?
The answer is: I don't know. We just have to take it one day at a time and overcome the obstacles as they are thrown our way. Good luck in your search.

I'm interested in this question... so... Some background: Age 25 Retiring in 10 years
I have thought about being 50 and here is my take on it.
I see myself as the person I dreamed I would be. Successful... Wealthy... and full of life... I imagine a lifestyle most people would envy... people would see a life that was just beginning. If you knew me you would also know my lofty goals. At that point in time my plans to reach those goals would be in full swing and there will be some media attention to my actions. Philanthropy will be a major part of my life. Just as I believe I will be blessed, I wish it upon others. I want to be able to say that at 50, I lived a life worth remembering...

Actually sweetie I prefer my age of 56 to when I was younger. My children are grown and I am free to live and pursue many things. Life begins at 50. When I was younger I had to try and raise a family while carving out a living. I did not have the wisdom I have today to know what is really important and how to enjoy life. Life was about being "kewl" then. Life is about being me now and living each day to the fullest.

Yeah, it scares me. I look forward with great anticipation to being wiser and taking things in my stride, but it is the financial aspect of being older that freaks me out. I know the best way to financial security for the future is saving NOW, but I barely make ends meet as it is. I wonder what will be around then and what music will be big. Whether I will have kids, who I might be married to (or divorced from!). I have thunk about it a lot.

I live day to day. Because looking towards the future is futile. The world in almost 3,000 years has learned nothing and will continue to destroy itself. So, I live for today. And sometimes today is good, and sometimes today is not so good. I make sure everyone I love knows they are loved, and well, try to be more positive. No, rarely if ever think about the future. I think about my kids alot and what kind of world they will be living in? I worry that this world will never learn and thus stop existing.
We really should stop having children. It's unfair and selfish of us to bring them into this world. No, no future thinker here.

being 20 with a 1 yr old son and realizing that this world is going to hell with a hand basket, yes i do ponder about the future. with the gas depleating, ive realized that i wont have to worry much, but with my son- i do. in 80 yrs is when they are predicting the gasoline to run out and no more fuel for vehicles, well id be 100 and i dont think id live to be old, but my son would have harder times than me, considering his generation is having to pick up the pieces and come up with other fuel methods and such. i fear over population and a ww3. i do think a lot about the future, but when i do i get so sick with worry, so i dont tend to ponder too much.

I'm going to be 52 in 3 months. It's not so bad. 50 is not death or anywhere near it. At 50 you just realize you're only half way through your life. The time you spend with your parents & going to school is so short compared to the rest of your life. I'm just now becoming more sure of myself & more self-confident. My life is way better now than it was when I was younger. Age is just a number...what you feel inside never changes, just our bodies change.

It's funny how people seem to think 50 is the last of it now adays...I mean...well my grandparents passed away around 80...so I guess I've always thought that 50 was just halfway on the number scale...I dunno..my parents are 54 and 55

Well I'm 53. Don't have to think about it. I'm there. And life is just beginning. Kids are married. My house stays clean! Less bills! I can do anything I want, when I want. And I figure by the time someone decides to blow up the world, I will already be gone. So at 13, You are the one that needs to really think about it. Heck, at our age, it doesn't matter what we think. We can't remember it anyway.
