fyi, network solutions sucks....godaddy is much less money and much better.

typically, no. because your MX record is supposed to point to an A record. you can actually get away without having an MX record (everything is configuration dependant), but not without an A record - the A record is whats used to actually resolve to a particular ip address and you can't send without an address to send to.

and maybe i should have mentioned that the MX record is a Mail Exchange record.

A records in DNS make the link between the host name and the ip address of the machine

no A record then no finding of the machine

no idea. buit where did you register your domain name. Network solutions offer a neat set of packages to host your domain name, website, emails and stuff. Though it's a bit expensive but the benefits or features are great; one of `me is 24x 7 free customer service
