It is centered around whoever is more in charge of finances in the home. Anywhere you go, it is the person actually holding the money that gets the good treatment.
I went in to a clothing store with my husband, and was virtually ignored because we had happened to wander over to the men's section first. Whereas, if we go into a store and they see me more interested in merchandise first, they ignore my husband.
A friend of mine was ignored by a waitress at a restaurant while the other person at table were being served well, until she asked for a glass of iced tea (for the THIRD time) and added that "by the way, Im the one who's paying for this meal." Then the waitress was all fondness and smiles and "yes ma'am, right away ma'am" in an attempt to improve her tip. It didnt help.
Since women make up a majority of consumers in the North American market, it makes sense that most of that market is centered around enticing them into the next big purchase.
And culture is generally dictated by the market that generates its quality of life.

Only when man went to fight the CIVIL WAR over slavery (AND ARE WE SURE?) that women power came to play...

yea, i would say men, but that's just me... No,no I am not bitter, really..... <3 you.
